SAN ANGELO – The Association of Mexican American Students AMAS is a registered organization under Angelo State University. AMAS has a rich heritage and legacy based on three core foundations -- Amor, Familia y Respeto which represent: love, family and respect.
Those three intrinsic characteristics were on display when AMAS members: Sara Delgado, Eddye Zuniga-Sánchez and Gabriel Salazar showed their love, their respect, and treated their community like family.
Delgado and her two fellow members were contacted by Suzanna Valenzuela, president of the board of the Railway Museum to help set up cots at one of the shelters, The Fort Stables. “I immediately knew AMAS would be willing to help,” Delgado said. “The least we can do for our neighbors is to give them a warm place to rest, and take a break from the cold.”
And that is what AMAS has done for the past 40 years as it celebrated its anniversary last semester.

SAN ÁNGELO - La Asociación de Estudiantes Mexicanos Americanos, AMAS, es una organización registrada bajo Angelo State University. AMAS tiene una rica herencia y legado basado en tres pilares fundamentales: Amor, familia y respeto.
Esas tres características intrínsecas quedaron en evidencia cuando los miembros de AMAS: Sara Delgado, Eddye Zuniga-Sánchez y Gabriel Salazar mostraron su amor, su respeto y trataron a su comunidad como familia.
Delgado y sus dos compañeros fueron contactados por Suzanna Valenzuela, presidenta de la junta del Museo del Ferrocarril para ayudar a instalar catres en uno de los refugios, los establos del fuerte. “Inmediatamente supe que AMAS estaría dispuesto a ayudar”, dijo Delgado. "Lo mínimo que podemos hacer por nuestros vecinos es darles un lugar cálido para descansar y escapar del frío".
Y eso es lo que ha hecho AMAS durante los últimos 40 años al celebrar su aniversario el semestre pasado.
