My parents are from Rockspring and there we grew the whole family, I had the opportunity to educate myself and, at the age of 19, I started my career as a civic leader when I was elected to the municipal council of my native country. At age 21, I won the seat at the Edwards County Commissioners Court, where in a hundred years there was no Hispanic commissioner in court and I became the youngest commissioner and the first Hispanic to have an elected office in the county. . Henry Cisneros was the mayor of San Antonio and he called me to congratulate me and advise me on the good and bad decisions that can be made, and good decisions are the most important ones that should be taken.
In 1986 I started as a contractor and in 1989 we moved to Fort Stockton, where I worked as a school board member (Fort Stockton ISD). I served on the Pecos County Commissioners Court for 3 terms, and was also appointed by Governor Ann Richards to the Permian Basin Regional Review Committee and the Advocacy Council of the Texas Department of Adult Protective Services.
At that time I acquired the State Farm insurance agency. I want to thank the Benavides family because they helped me become the second Hispanic insurance agent among 33 agents in the area. SAN ANGELO – Nació en Hereford, Texas de los campos de labores del Panhandle, el señor Antonio- Tony- Villarreal, agente propietario de State Farm Insurance el buen vecino en San Ángelo, en una entrevista comentó.
“Tuve la fortuna de haber nacido de una familia muy trabajadora, siempre le doy gracias a Dios que mis padres nos enseñaron a mí y a mis hermanos tener primeramente a Dios en nuestra vida y ser honestos, humildes, trabajadores y servir a nuestra comunidad.
Mis padres son de Rockspring y allí crecimos toda la familia, tuve la oportunidad de educarme, después a la edad de 19 años comencé mi carrera como líder cívico cuando fui elegido para el concilio municipal de mi tierra natal. A los 21 años gané el escaño en la Corte de Comisionados del Condado Edwards, donde en cien años no había existido un comisionado hispano en la casa de corte y me convertí en el comisionado mas joven y el primer hispano en tener una oficina elegida en el Condado Edwards en el estado de Texas.
Henry Cisneros era el alcalde en san Antonio y me llamó para felicitarme y aconsejarme sobre las buenas y malas decisiones que se pueden tomar, y de las buenas decisiones son las que más importan para tomarse.
En 1986 comencé como contratista y en 1989 nos fuimos a radicar a Fort Stockton donde serví como miembro de la meza directiva de las escuelas (Fort Stockton ISD). En ese tiempo adquirí la agencia de seguros State Farm. Quiero agradecer a la familia Benavides porque me ayudaron a convertirme en el segundo agente hispano de seguros entre 33 agentes del área. Por razones de salud de mi esposa nos trasladamos a San Ángelo y ya tenemos 11 años sirviendo a esta ciudad y cada mes de octubre realizamos un convivio como una manera de agradecimiento y este año lo estamos celebrando el 20 de octubre; donde todos son bienvenidos”.
