San Angelo, Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an executive order on how the state should respond to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“What of the things Governor Abbot mandated was that the local government should be the one dealing with COVID-19,” said Del Velasquez, executive director of the Downtown San Angelo, Inc. “To take the steps necessary to protect its own community,”
Velasquez said that most of businesses in San Angelo have closed their door and few are operating on a limited basis.
“Some businesses have offered takeout orders or curve side deliveries,” he said. “Some will be forced to reduce staff.”
The San Angelo Health Department has indicated that is remaining vigilant and monitoring the ongoing outbreak, alongside with DSHS.
“The mandate the Federal Government has issued is to keep our distance, not having meetings with over 10 people, wash our hands, do all the things we supposed to be doing to stay clean and safe.”
Velasquez indicated that if we do this, as a community in San Angelo, and the County, we reduced the risk of getting infected. “People are not getting out, which is a good thing,” Velasquez said.

San Ángelo, Texas – El gobernador de Texas Greg Abbott firmó una orden ejecutiva sobre cómo debe responder el estado al brote de COVID-19.
"Lo que ordenó el gobernador Abbot fue que el gobierno local debería ser el encargado de COVID-19", dijo Del Velásquez, director ejecutivo de Downtown San Angelo, Inc. "Esto es para tomar las medidas necesarias para proteger a su propia comunidad"
Velásquez dijo que la mayoría de las empresas en San Ángelo han cerrado sus puertas y pocas operan de manera limitada.
"Algunas empresas han ofrecido pedidos para llevar o entregas directas en la acera", dijo. "Algunos negocios se verán obligados a reducir el personal".
El Departamento de Salud de San Ángelo ha indicado que permanece vigilante y monitoreando el brote en curso, junto con DSHS.
"El mandato que ha emitido el Gobierno Federal es mantener nuestra distancia, no tener reuniones con más de 10 personas, lavarnos las manos, hacer todo lo que se supone que debemos hacer para mantenernos limpios y seguros".
Velásquez indicó que, si hacemos esto, como comunidad en San Ángelo y el Condado, reducimos el riesgo de infectarnos. "La gente no está saliendo, lo cual es algo bueno", dijo Velásquez.
