SAN ANGELO – On January 20, 2021 at the 59th Presidential Inauguration, the nation witnessed a momentous occasion that involved three individuals who made history.
The first one involved Kamala Harris when she took the oath of office to become the first biracial woman to become the vice president of the United States. The second part involved another woman, Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina US Supreme Court Justice whom Harris personally requested to be the presiding judge in her swearing-in ceremony.
The third historical moment occurred when Joe Biden, Jr., at age 78 was the oldest to become the 46th President of the United States. President Biden was sworn-in by US Supreme Court Chief Justice, John Roberts.
“The American story depends not on any one of us, not on some of us, but on all of us, on we the people who seek a more perfect union.”
President Biden’s inaugural speech briefly touched on “a once in a century virus,” the millions of jobs lost, and a “cry for racial justice.” To restore the soul of America Biden said required more than just words, it required “unity”.
“Today on this January day, (20th) my whole soul is in this, bringing America together, uniting our people. And I ask every American to join me in this cause.”
