San Angelo, Texas – November 2nd is recognized as Day of the Dead. In Hispanic culture death is seen as a part of the cycle of life and a time to celebrate the life of the departed.
There were multiple celebrations throughout San Angelo acknowledging this day.
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens held a celebration in which Eulogio Diaz, community representative for Johnson’s Funeral Home and Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens lead a small ceremony that included prayer and words of celebration. The Ballet Azteca shared a performance with the attendees and free battery candles were provided for the patrons.
Tacos Locos restaurant also celebrated providing their guests with free face painting, bread of the dead and hot chocolate.
The family of the late Tereso Ortiz, a well-known Hispanic community advocate also held a celebration at Ortiz Plaza. Olivia Garza Ortiz, daughter of Tereso and Olivia Ortiz recalls the events that her father would put together stating, "I liked it because of all the vendors that would set up and all the people that attended. She hopes that the celebration grows next year.

San Ángelo, Texas - El 2 de noviembre es reconocido como el Día de los Muertos. En la cultura hispana, la muerte es vista como parte del ciclo de la vida y un tiempo para celebrar la vida de los difuntos.
En todo San Ángelo hubo múltiples celebraciones reconociendo este día.
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, realizó una celebración en la que Eulogio Díaz, representante de Johnson’s Funeral Home y Lawnhaven Memorial Garden en la comunidad, condujo una pequeña ceremonia que incluyó oración y palabras de celebración. El Ballet Azteca compartió una actuación con los asistentes y se proporcionaron velas de batería gratis para los clientes.
El Restaurante Tacos Locos también celebró ofreciendo a sus invitados pintura facial gratuita, pan de muertos y chocolate.
La familia del fallecido Tereso Ortiz, un conocido defensor de la comunidad hispana, también celebraron con la comunidad en la Plaza Ortiz. Olivia Garza Ortiz, hija de Tereso y Olivia Ortiz, recuerda los eventos que su padre organizaba, diciendo: "Me gustaba por todos los vendedores que participaban y todas las personas que asistían. Ella espera que la celebración crezca el próximo año".
