San Angelo, Texas – Debido al Coronavirus, el Club de Leones del Sur de San Ángelo, está indeciso en que se va a realizar este año.
Todo está difícil”, dijo Monette Molinar, presidenta del Club. “Quizá pongamos algo en el internet o por el radio, no estamos seguros todavía”.
Molinar dijo que desde principio de año se empezó a visualizar cuales serían las actividades, tanto del 5 de Mayo como las Fiestas Patrias, pero desde marzo que se atravesó la pandemia, se suspendieron los planes.
“Pero, quiero decirle a la gente, que continuamos trabajando, pero con mucho cuidado”, dijo Molinar.
El Comité de la Herencia Hispana de San Angelo en un esfuerzo por defender de manera integral a la comunidad hispana, su cultura y la rica historia dentro de nuestra gran ciudad, los miembros de la comunidad hispana se han unido para formar el Comité de Herencia Hispana de San Angelo. Los fundadores del comité somos: Del Velasquez, presidente; Suzanna Valenzuela, vicepresidenta; Monette Molinar, secretaria; y Monica Ramos, Tesorera.
“Hemos tenido mucho apoyo de la gente, al saber que pensamos hablar de las familias de antaño de la ciudad”.
“Durante más de 60 años, el Club de Leones del Sur de San Ángelo ha sido anfitrión de la celebración del 15 y 16 de septiembre conocida como Las Fiestas Patrias o el Grito de Independencia; en particular porque conmemora un día importante en México, que celebra una gran población de ascendencia mexicana en San Ángelo”. Dijo Molinar.
La historia nos ha enseñado que el Grito de Independencia, fue pronunciado por el sacerdote Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla en 1810 para proclamar el inicio de la Guerra de Independencia de México de España.

San Angelo, Texas – Due to the Coronavirus, the Lions Club of South San Angelo is undecided in what will take place this year.

Molinar said that since the beginning of the year it began to visualize what the activities would be, both on May 5 and the National Holidays, but since March, when the pandemic was crossed, the plans were suspended.

The San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Committee in an effort to comprehensively advocate for the Hispanic community, its culture, and rich history within our great city, members of the Hispanic community have come together to form the Hispanic Heritage Committee of San Angelo. Founders of the committee: Del Velasquez, President; Suzanna Valenzuela, Vice President; Monette Molinar, Secretary; and Monica Ramos, Treasurer.
"We have had a lot of support from the people, knowing that we plan to talk about the families of yesteryear in the city."
“For more than 60 years, the San Angelo South Lions Club has hosted the celebration of September 15 and 16 known as Las Fiestas Patrias or the Cry of Independence; particularly because it commemorates an important day in Mexico, which celebrates a large population of Mexican descent in San Angelo”. Molinar said.
The history has taught us that the Cry of Independence was pronounced by the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in 1810 to proclaim the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence from Spain.
