SAN ANGELO – Ruben Martinez remembers when he was a 12-year-old, eight-grader that his father took him out of school and put him to work on a fulltime basis. His dad taught Ruben the value of hard work that allowed him to be successful later on in his adult life and career. While Ruben said his father thought what he did was right, he felt like he needed to get back what he lost--an education.
Thus, Ruben began his educational journey toward acquiring a diploma by attending night school. All this while he and his wife were raising two daughters and his taking on two jobs. Martinez eventually got his GED, then followed up by enrolling at a junior college in Snyder, Texas. After two years, Ruben obtained an Associate degree in applied science. But that was just the tip of the iceberg as Ruben began to spread his wings in the sense that his life and career took a dramatic turn for the better.
Ruben began to find himself as he went into different professions and was successful in two. The first one was art school. “I had always been blessed with the ability to paint and draw so I enrolled in an art school correspondence which took three years” said Ruben. He was so good at it that people began to ask him to do paintings for them.
When Martinez and his family moved to San Angelo, he realized there were more opportunities that presented themselves. So, Martinez decided to enroll in Real Estate school, and acquired his license. After Ruben put the Lord in his life first and his family second, he took his family to church with emphasis on prayer. And along with his being bilingual that led to his being successful in Real Estate.
“My personal goal since I put God first in my life in everything I do, is to help others who are less fortunate than I.” Martinez does that through his artistic work that allows him to see how to accomplish certain things through passion, a drive and a vision. “Before you start a painting you already see the picture finished in your mind.” And that’s the way our lives should be. ““I want to see them fulfill their dreams through what God has invested in me to give them,” concluded Martinez.

SAN ÁNGELO - Rubén Martínez recuerda que cuando tenía 12 años y era estudiante de octavo grado, su padre lo sacó de la escuela y lo puso a trabajar a tiempo completo. El padre de Rubén le enseñó el valor del trabajo duro que le permitió tener éxito más adelante en su vida adulta y en su carrera.
Si bien dijo Ruben que su padre pensó que lo que hizo fue correcto, pero él sintió que necesitaba recuperar lo que había perdido; una educación.
Así, Rubén comenzó su viaje educativo hacia la obtención de un diploma asistiendo a la escuela nocturna. Todo esto mientras él y su esposa estaban criando a dos hijas y él asumía dos trabajos.
Finalmente, Martínez obtuvo su GED y luego se inscribió en una universidad de primer nivel en Snyder, Texas. Después de dos años, Rubén obtuvo un título de Asociado en ciencias aplicadas.
Pero eso fue solo la punta del tempano cuando Rubén comenzó a extender sus alas en el sentido de que su vida y su carrera dieron un giro dramático para major.
Rubén comenzó a encontrarse a sí mismo cuando entró en diferentes profesiones y tuvo éxito en dos. La primera fue la escuela de arte. "Siempre he sido bendecido con la capacidad de pintar y dibujar, así que me inscribí en una escuela de arte por correspondencia la cual tomó tres años”, dijo Ruben. Era tan bueno en eso que la gente comenzó a pedirle que hiciera pinturas para ellos.
Cuando Martínez y su familia se mudaron a San Ángelo, se dio cuenta de que se presentaban más oportunidades. Entonces, Martínez decidió inscribirse en la escuela de bienes raíces, y adquirió su licencia. Y junto con ser bilingüe lo cual lo llevó a tener éxito en Bienes Raíces. Después de que Rubén puso primero al Señor en su vida y luego a su familia, él llevó a su familia a la iglesia con énfasis en la oración. "Mi objetivo personal, desde de que puse a Dios en primer lugar en mi vida en todo lo que hago, es ayudar a otros que son menos afortunados que yo". Martínez lo hace a través de su trabajo artístico que le permite ver cómo lograr ciertas cosas a través de la pasión, unidad y visión.
"Antes de comenzar una pintura, ya ves la imagen terminada en tu mente". Y así es como deberían ser nuestras vidas. "Quiero verlos cumplir sus sueños a través de lo que Dios ha invertido en mí para darles", concluyó Martínez.
