Acting Secretary Wolf’s Statement on Non-Essential Travel

DEL RIO, TX – This information was released to this media on May 19, 2020, from Luis Mares, Supervisory CBPO. “As I have repeatedly stated – border security is homeland security. Our efforts over the last several months to limit non-essential travel have been successful and now is not the time to change course. The President has made it clear that we must continue to keep legitimate, commercial trade flowing while limiting those seeking to enter our country for non-essential purposes. Non-essential travel will not be permitted until this administration is convinced that doing so is safe and secure.”
We have been in contact with our Canadian and Mexican counterparts and they also agree that extending these restrictions is prudent at this time. We appreciate our partnership with Mexico and Canada in ensuring that North America is working together to combat the ongoing global pandemic.
Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has notified the continuation of temporary travel restrictions. Secretary of Homeland Security has continued to temporarily limit the travel of individuals from Mexico into the United States at land ports of entry along the United States-Mexico border.
Such travel will be limited to “essential travel,” as further defined in this document. These restrictions went into effect at midnight Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on May 21,2020 and will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 22, 2020.

DEL RIO, TX – El 19 de mayo de 2020, esta información fue enviada a este medio, por Luis Mares, Supervisor CBPO. “Como he dicho repetidamente, la seguridad fronteriza es la seguridad nacional. Nuestros esfuerzos en los últimos meses para limitar los viajes no esenciales han tenido éxito y ahora no es el momento de cambiar de rumbo. El presidente ha dejado en claro que debemos continuar manteniendo el comercio legítimo mientras limitamos a aquellos que buscan ingresar a nuestro país con fines no esenciales. Los viajes no esenciales no serán permitidos hasta que esta administración esté convencida de que hacerlo es seguro”.
Hemos estado en contacto con nuestros homólogos canadienses y mexicanos y también están de acuerdo en que prorrogar estas restricciones es prudente en este momento. Apreciamos nuestra asociación con México y Canadá para garantizar que América del Norte trabaje conjuntamente para combatir la pandemia mundial en curso.
La oficina de la secretaria del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional de los Estados Unidos; Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza de EE. UU., Departamento de Seguridad Nacional de EE. UU. Ha notificado la continuación de las restricciones de viaje temporales. La secretaria de Seguridad Nacional continúa limitando temporalmente el viaje de personas de México a los Estados Unidos en los puertos de entrada terrestres a lo largo de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México.
Dicho viaje se limitará a "viaje esencial", tal como se define en este documento. Estas restricciones entraron en vigencia a la medianoche, hora del este (EDT) del 21 de mayo de 2020 y permanecerán vigentes hasta las 11:59 p.m. EDT el 22 de junio de 2020.
