San Angelo, Texas – The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to announce the opening of two new exhibits which will highlight the talented artists and artisans of the San Angelo area: True Texas: Folk & Traditional Arts of the Concho Valley and The Angelo State University Art Faculty Biennial Exhibition. The exhibits will be on display from Friday, September 18 through Sunday, November 29.
The museum’s current hours are 11 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 pm to 4 pm on Sundays, closed Monday. In order to protect the health and safety of staff and visitors, everyone is required to wear a mask or fabric face covering, and keep at least 6 feet apart from others. Admission is currently free.
Made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, True Texas: Folk & Traditional Arts of the Concho Valley celebrates fine craft and folk artistry from twenty-two makers across nine counties in the Concho Valley. Silver and gold belt buckles, engraved bits and spurs, hand-tooled leather gear, richly textured loom weavings, hand-forged kitchen tools, and eye-catching patchwork quilts are just a few examples of the work that will be displayed. The research, fieldwork, photography, and accompanying catalog for this exhibit were completed by experienced folklorist Douglas Manger of Seguin, Texas.
“The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts recognizes the significance of this region and its role as one of the great agricultural capitals of the nation,” says Howard Taylor, SAMFA President. “We also see it as a region with important artistic, folk and cultural traditions, which need to be more fully recognized and appreciated.” The True Texas project, in addition to other SAMFA efforts, is designed to further this goal.

San Angelo, Texas –El Museo de Bellas Artes de San Angelo se complace en anunciar la apertura de dos nuevas exhibiciones que destacarán a los talentosos artistas y artesanos del área de San Angelo: True Texas: Folk & Traditional Arts of the Concho Valley y The Angelo State University Art Faculty Biennial Exposición. Las exhibiciones estarán en exhibición desde el viernes 18 de septiembre hasta el domingo 29 de noviembre.
El horario actual del museo es de 11 am a 4 pm de martes a sábado, y de 1 pm a 4 pm los domingos, cerrado los lunes. El proyecto True Texas, además de otros esfuerzos de SAMFA, está diseñado para promover este objetivo.
