San Angelo, Texas – As a San Angelo Taxpayer, I am against changing names on long established buildings for the following reasons:
It is costly and labor intensive for the school to change all the current logos or names on all official paperwork, the building, clothing, and other items.
It is a slippery slope to change names. Consider Tom Green County was named in 1874 after Confederate Brigadier General Thomas Green? Beauregard was also a Confederate General. Our history is to learn from, not to change. If we allow one name to change, are we not opening up the option to others?
Change.org is a for profit site that is left leaning and sells your information to others. “These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation.” (Media Bias/Fact Check). Also, anyone can vote on this web site, many are not from the San Angelo area. Thus, I believe the numbers reported may be skewed.
Many have graduated from Lee Junior High and are proud of being a Rebel (which has a vast array of meanings). Again, changing history doesn’t change the present.
Supporting a multicultural city means engaging in conversation and working together on issues and problems, not dividing us with color and race. Our police deserve support and recognition on trying to bring us together. Chief Carter is working toward pairing up police officers with young students on outdoor trips. That is a solution.
One idea may be to place it on the ballot in November and allow voters to decide?
I was a military child, wife, and civilian employee for 33 years with the US Air Force. We held events and workplace daily activities without race issues. I believe our city can as well. Let’s leave race out of it, and work on unity as compassionate human beings. Ginger Moore proud Citizen of San Angelo.

Creo que nuestra ciudad también puede. Dejemos de lado la raza y trabajemos en la unidad como seres humanos compasivos.
