San Angelo Texas -. The West Texas C.R.E.O (Community Reinvesting in Educational Opportunities) held their annual Spring Banquet at the TLCA Elementary Campus on April 25th. Among the speakers and presentations was a young lady named Andrea Meador-Safont a junior speech and debate student at Central High School.
Andrea was pronounced State Champion in GA Poetry Interpretation in the 2018 UIL State Meet in Austin. She was able to share her award-winning presentation at the banquet.
“My poetry is where my speech originated, pieces of literature that inspired me to encompass the ESL (English as a Second Language) program and how the children feel and how they are affected by the system.” commented Andrea.
With this speech Andrea hopes to be the voice of the ESL students. In 2001 the Bush Administration pass the No Child Left Behind Act. “While it was a legendary piece of education reform and it did good things for America, it left behind the ESL students because there was less funding for their programs therefore, they were not allowed learn as well as they were before.” Stated Meador-Safont
“Learning both languages and encompassing both cultures is becoming increasingly important” concluded Meador-Safont.

San Angelo Texas -.El West Texas C.R.E.O (Reinversión comunitaria en oportunidades educativas) llevó a cabo su banquete anual de primavera en el Campus de la escuela primaria de TLCA el 25 de abril. Entre los oradores y presentaciones estuvo una joven llamada Andrea Meador-Safont un estudiante junior de discurso y debate en Central High School.
Andrea fue declarada campeón del estado en la interpretación de poesía GA en la competición UIL del estado 2018 en Austin. Ella compartió su presentación galardonada en el banquete.
"Mi poesía es mi discurso de origen, piezas de literatura que me inspiraron para abarcar el programa de ESL (inglés como segundo idioma) y cómo se sienten los niños y cómo se ven afectados por el sistema" Comentó Andrea. Con este discurso Andrea espera ser la voz de los estudiantes de ESL. En 2001 la administración Bush paso el acto No Child Left Behind Act. "Si bien fue una pieza legendaria de la reforma de la educación y que hizo cosas buenas para América, dejó atrás los estudiantes de ESL porque había menos fondos para sus programas, por lo tanto, no fueron permitidos aprender bien como eran antes" Declarado Meador-Safont.
"Aprendizaje de ambos idiomas y que abarca ambas culturas es cada vez más importante", concluyó Meador Safont.
