San Angelo, Texas – Brenda Rodríguez is a third grade teacher at Belaire Elementary School, for her education is the most important thing and that is what knowing how to do better, educating children in her classroom.
"I learned it directly from my parents, they came from Mexico, from a ranch. They raised me and gave me a better life; they didn't have the education I could get here in the United States. They wanted the best for me."
Brenda is a bilingual teacher and said that speaking English and Spanish has given her an opportunity to learn from other non-Spanish speaking teachers, bilingual communication is the key to being able to speak to non-English speaking parents.
“Being bilingual opens up better opportunities for me,” she said. “Also being able to help others in many ways, not just my third-grade class, but the entire school.”
Rodriguez said when she was little only spoke Spanish and was lucky to had teachers that besides teaching her English or math or science; they gave her the love and attention that taught her to care for others and that made me to be a teacher.”
Rodriguez recently was nominated teacher of the year 2020 by Belaire Elementary School.
“The nomination blew my mind,” she said. “It’s an honor for me, I appreciate the children, the staff, the coworkers for deciding that I would take the title of Teacher of the Year 2020.”
Brenda said the most rewarding things for being a teacher is to touch the lives and souls of the children in her classroom for them to become whatever they want to be in their life.

San Ángelo, Texas – Brenda Rodríguez es una maestra de tercer grado en la Escuela Primaria Belaire, para ella la educación es lo más importante y eso es lo que saber hacer mejor, educar a los niños en su salón de clases.
"Lo aprendí directamente de mis padres, ellos vinieron de México, de un rancho. Me criaron y me dieron una vida mejor, ellos no tenían la educación que pude obtener aquí en Estados Unidos. Ellos querían lo mejor para mí”.
Brenda es una maestra bilingüe y dijo que al hablar inglés y español le ha dado oportunidad de aprender de otros maestros que no hablan español, la comunicación bilingüe es la clave para poder hablar con los padres que no hablan inglés.
"Ser bilingüe me abre mejores oportunidades", dijo. "También poder ayudar a otros de muchas maneras, no solo a mi clase de tercer grado, sino a toda la escuela".
Rodríguez dijo que cuando era pequeña solo hablaba español y tuvo la suerte de tener maestros que además de enseñarle inglés, matemáticas o ciencias; le dieron el amor y la atención que le enseñaron a cuidar a los demás eso me hizo que me convirtiera en maestra".
Recientemente, Rodríguez fue nombrada maestra del año 2020 por la escuela primaria Belaire.
Ella dijo. "La nominación me dejó alucinada, es un honor para mí, agradezco a los niños, al personal, los compañeros de trabajo por decidir que tomaría el título de Maestra del Año 2020".
Brenda dijo que lo más gratificante de ser maestra es poder tocar las vidas y las almas de los niños en su salón de clases para que se conviertan en lo que quieran ser en su vida.
