City planner Hillary Bueker has been promoted to the City of San Angelo’s planning manager after serving two-plus years as a senior planner.
As planning manager, Bueker will manage the Planning staff and administer development review and long-range planning for the City. This includes oversight of applications for zoning changes, land subdivision and other development-related issues. She will supervise the interpretation, modification and creation of regulations and standards related to zoning and subdivisions. The Planning division also works closely with other development-related offices, including Building Permits and Inspections, Fire Prevention, Economic Development, Engineering, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Bueker joined the City in 2017 as a senior planner. In addition to working with local developers and citizens in the development of ordinances related to zoning, land development and subdivisions, she has presented cases to City boards and to the City Council.
“City planners literally guide what a community will look like for generations to come,” Bueker said. “That is both important and exciting work, especially in a place like San Angelo, which is certainly a community on the rise. To have the opportunity to lead my colleagues, for whom I have great respect, is a great honor.”
A graduate of Eldorado High School, Bueker was on the dean’s list all four years at Texas Tech University while earning a degree in landscape architecture. She worked three years in landscape architecture for Scherz Landscape Co. From 2007-14, she served as a park planner with the City of Mansfield. She is a graduate of both Leadership San Angelo and Leadership Mansfield.
“Along with being incredibly bright, Hillary has always demonstrated a solutions-oriented approach to her work,” said Jon James, the City’s planning and development services director. “Developers appreciate that about her. And that’s an important tone to set when leading a team.”
