Central High School Principal, Bill Waters addressed the CHS graduating class of 2023 on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Mr. Waters’ commencement speech was his final one after 15 years of being the principal.
SAN ANGELO – “To the class of 2023 today is certainly your day. And Mr. Waters, it’s your day too, you finally get to graduate from high school!” said Central High School Valedictorian, Franchesca Isabelle Untalan as she addressed her fellow senior class, family friends, and a capacity packed audience at Saturday’s May 27, 2023 high school graduation ceremony held at the Stephen Junell Center / Stephens Arena on the campus of Angelo State University.
In Franchesca’s valedictory address, she encouraged her classmates to “live with the courage to be yourself. Make your life yours and make it beautiful. Because we are just beginning.”
Although Untalan’s brief acknowledgment on CHS Principal Water’s finally graduating from high school was a humorous tongue-in-cheek comment, in a way he was graduating. O rather more as in retiring.
“I have had the honor to stand here 15 times,” said Mr. Waters when he addressed the graduating 2023 senior class comprised of 621 graduates.
“Know that high school was the start, not the end. And CHS gave you a really good first step. YOU are high school graduates. . .” And for the final 15th time, Waters concluded his remarks as he has for the previous 14 years. “Always remember, make it a great day or not. The choice is yours.”
