SAN ANGELO –The Brady Bulldogs got a first-hand close-up experience of what it was like to be steamrolled as Crane crushed its opponent 49-15 in a Class 3A Division II Bi-district playoff game played at San Angelo Stadium.
In the first quarter although “the Purple Storm” Cranes scored first, the Bulldogs quickly responded with a touchdown and PAT to take the lead 7-6. Even though the Bulldogs led after the first quarter, the team was overcome by a superior Crane offensive, assault as 21 unanswered points were put up on the scoreboard. Crane led 28-7 at half-time.
Crane got its first touchdown score when quarterback, Jackson Willis punched it in from a yard out. With the PAT missed, the Golden Cranes only led 6-0 with 7:24 left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs came right back with their own scoring drive that ended with a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback, Hayden Baronet to his receiver, Jacob Wernecke. Left-handed, Baronet’s throw was a bit high but Wernecke went up and high-pointed the ball. After Bulldog kicker, Sergio Saucedo made the PAT, it was 7-6, Brady with 5:33 left in the first quarter.
Crane added two touchdowns in the third quarter; then finished off Brady with one more in the fourth to end the Bulldogs’ season.
Crane’s (8-1) next area round matchup is against the Childress Bearcats. Childress (8-2) defeated the (9-2) Abernathy Antelopes 28-21 in a Friday, November 13th bi-district playoff game played at Tyer Stadium in Floydada, Texas.
