Del Rio, Texas – Inside the old City Hall / Fire Station in Del Rio, Texas sits the Del Rio Council for the Arts. According to Nancy O'Brien, Executive Director of the Council the building has existed since 1922. It has served the community as a city hall, fire station, and a jail. Currently the building is still owned by the City of Del Rio and the Council occupies it at no cost. O'Brien has been with the council since 2008.
The Del Rio Council for the Arts' mission is to provide affordable arts, education, and entertainment for the enrichment of the community and surrounding areas. “We maintain a small local arts gallery and an art school,” commented O'Brien.
There is a small tuition for supplies and for the paying the teachers. He Del Rio Council for the Arts offers several classes as well as an opportunity for artists to display and sell their art. They have displayed art from local, international, and regional artists.
