Community, culture, and FUN—that’s what Family Fiestas Patrias is all about. On Sept. 24-25 San Angelo’s cultural district will turn into an extravaganza of music, art, crafts, food and activity.
The San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum and Cultural Center and the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (SAMFA) have created something for the whole community. It’s part of a celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month when the United States honors the countless contributions of more than 60 million Hispanic Americans.
The action is Friday, Sept 24 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Most activities are free and families can enjoy art projects, STEM activities, interactive dance demonstrations and hands-on clay making in the new SAMFA studio. Food trucks will offer their finest and artists and vendors will display and sell their works. La Esperanza is even giving free vaccinations from their new mobile unit. It’s all set to live music that starts with a tribute to Selena and ranges through Tejano, cumbia, and conjunto.
In addition to all the free workshops and activities, SAMFA has two exhibits opening on Friday and continuing Saturday. Never-before-seen exhibits “Hand Stitch 2021/Works by Texas Artists” and “Maurice Schmidt: Daily Life, Holy Expression” are free and open to the public.
The event will end with a concert of Cadaques Music Austin, the nuevo flamenco that has an authentic polished soul sound, from 9 to 10 p.m. on the grounds of SAMFA. Admission is free.

Comunidad, cultura y DIVERSIÓN: de eso se trata Family Fiestas Patrias. Del 24 al 25 de septiembre, el distrito cultural de San Angelo se convertirá en un espectáculo de música, arte, artesanía, comida y actividad.
El Museo y Centro Cultural de la Herencia Hispana de San Angelo y el Museo de Bellas Artes de San Angelo (SAMFA) han creado algo para toda la comunidad. Es parte de una celebración del Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana cuando Estados Unidos honra las innumerables contribuciones de más de 60 millones de hispanoamericanos.
La acción es el viernes 24 de septiembre de 4 a 8 p.m. y el sábado 25 de septiembre de 10 a.m. a 10 p.m. La mayoría de las actividades son gratuitas y las familias pueden disfrutar de proyectos de arte, actividades STEM, demostraciones de danza interactivas y elaboración de arcilla en el nuevo estudio SAMFA. Los camiones de comida ofrecerán lo mejor y los artistas y vendedores exhibirán y venderán sus obras. La Esperanza incluso está dando vacunas gratuitas desde su nueva unidad móvil. Todo está ambientado con música en vivo que comienza con un tributo a Selena y se extiende a lo largo de la música tejana, la cumbia y el conjunto.
Además de todos los talleres y actividades gratuitos, SAMFA tiene dos exhibiciones que abren el viernes y continúan el sábado. Las exhibiciones nunca antes vistas “Hand Stitch 2021 / Works by Texas Artists” y “Maurice Schmidt: vida cotidiana, expresión sagrada” son gratuitas y abiertas al público.
El acto finalizará con un concierto de Cadaques Music Austin, el nuevo flamenco que tiene un auténtico sonido soul pulido, de 9 a 10 de la noche. por motivos de SAMFA. La admisión es gratis.
