San Angelo, Texas – Senior Pastor Walt Landers of The Life Church in San Angelo, was born and raised in this city and became the youth pastor. Later, in his life, he left town, to move to Central Texas, and when the senior pastor left, the elders at The Life Church asked Pastor Landers to return to San Angelo.
“When I came back, I became the Senior Pastor,” Landers said. “
Landers is also the CEO of the Texas Leadership Charter Academy, which used to be a private Christian school. The Academy now serves around 2,900 students. He has been actively involved in our community for years. He began gaining work experience while employed by his father’s construction company. Later he worked in commercial construction for ten years at Templeton Construction and Lee Lewis Construction. He then found his ultimate calling in ministry and education. Pastor Landers has focused on two aspects: Faith and Education.
“In 2008 we were awarded by the State to open a charter school,” Landers indicated. “We are keeping the same values, things that we know worked well in a private school, but now it is free of charge.”
Pastor Landers said that at the Church and the Academy, they have created a good environment that is conducive for education.
“We do that by a lot of different strategies,” Landers said. “We want to create a good successful graduating student, to have a great life and a great citizen.”
According to Pastor Landers, just in San Angelo, the Academy averages 27% first generation graduates.

El pastor Landers dijo que en la Iglesia y la Academia han creado un buen ambiente propicio para la educación.
“Lo hacemos mediante muchas estrategias diferentes”, dijo Landers. "Queremos crear un buen estudiante graduado exitoso, que sea un gran ciudadano y tenga una gran vida".
Según el pastor Landers, solo en San Angelo, la Academia tiene un promedio de 27% de graduados de primera generación.
