SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – November 11th marks the day that an armistice (truce) between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect. Armistice Day was first commemorated on November 11, 1919 and became a holiday in 1938. The name was changed to Veteran’s Day in 1954. Historic Fairmount Cemetery dressed in red, white, and blue during its Veterans Day Ceremony honoring all who served on Monday November 11th.
Kam Stribling, President of Friends of Fairmount welcomed the attendees followed by the invocation lead by Pastor Mac Roller, Glen Meadows Baptist Church. State Representative District 72 Drew Darby was present and lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Fort Concho Living History Program participated with an Artillery presentation.
Other participants included Charles Westbrook, sons of Confederate Veterans, with a historic spotlight and Mr. Chris Morgan on bagpipes. Colonel Andres Nazario, 17th Wing Commander, Goodfellow Air Force Base was the guest speaker.
The ceremony closed with a prayer led by Brenda Gunter, Mayor, City of San Angelo.

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – El 11 de noviembre marca el día en que entró en vigor un armisticio (tregua) entre Alemania y las naciones aliadas. El día del armisticio se celebró por primera vez el 11 de Noviembre de 1919 y en 1938 se convirtió en día feriado. En 1954 el nombre se cambió al día de los veteranos. El histórico cementerio Fairmount, el lunes 11 de noviembre de 2019 se vistió de rojo, blanco y azul durante la ceremonia del día de los veteranos en honor a todos los que sirvieron.
Kam Stribling, presidente de Friends of Fairmount, dio la bienvenida a los asistentes, seguido de la invocación dirigida por el pastor Mac Roller de la Iglesia Bautista Glen Meadows. El Representante Estatal del Distrito 72, Drew Darby, estuvo presente y dirigió el grupo en la promesa de lealtad. El programa de historia viva del Fuerte Concho participó con una presentación de artillería.
Otros participantes incluyeron a Charles Westbrook, hijos de veteranos confederados, con un foco histórico y al Sr. Chris Morgan en la gaita. El orador invitado fue el coronel Andrés Nazario, comandante del ala 17 de la Base de la Fuerza Aérea Goodfellow.
La ceremonia concluyó con una oración dirigida por Brenda Gunter, alcalde de la ciudad de San Angelo.
