San Angelo, Texas – From October 15 through 25 in San Angelo the famous En Plein Air painting fair will take place. This is a traditional international paint competition festivity which started seven years ago inspired by an event that started in 1921, in tiny Christoval, just south of San Angelo, where local artists founded the Texas Artists Camp which grew to be one of the leading open-air gatherings in the Southwest.
‘En Plein Air’ – is a French term meaning ‘in the open air’. Prior to the invention of the metal tube in the 1840’s, most landscapes were painted in the artists’ studios as they had no way to store or transport their hand-mixed paints. Impressionism is one of the best-known art movements of the past two centuries. It began to flourish as artists around the world left their studios to study the light and atmosphere in nature and paint on site with their now transportable tubes of paint.
“The event has become one of the top competitions in the country,” said Barbara Rallo, coordinator of the event. “San Angelo with this event is placed on the National scale.”
Rallo said that participant painters, have an opportunity to paint what they see on the open, like a tree, the sun, the flowers, the land scape, a mountain, including San Angelo surrounding areas, even downtown.
“We are expecting artists form 22 different States, that have never been in San Angelo,” said Rallo. “They spend the whole week painting and at the end we will see over 100 painting of beautiful San Angelo and the Concho Valley.”

San Ángelo, Texas – Del 15 al 25 de octubre en San Angelo tendrá lugar la famosa feria de pintura En Plein Air.
