El domingo 2 de noviembre de 2025, aproximadamente a las 8:27 a. m., la policía de San Angelo observó un disturbio en una tienda de conveniencia ubicada en la cuadra 1800 de Sherwood Way. Al momento de la llamada, los agentes ya se encontraban en la zona investigando otro incidente en la misma calle. Estos agentes fueron de los primeros en responder al incidente en la tienda. Al llegar, los agentes se enteraron de que el sospechoso había huido.

Encontraron cerca a un hombre de 44 años con aparentes heridas de arma blanca y le brindaron atención médica de inmediato. El Departamento de Bomberos de San Angelo acudió al lugar y trasladó a la víctima al Centro Médico Shannon, donde actualmente se encuentra estable. Otros agentes respondieron a la zona y localizaron al sospechoso escondido cerca. El sospechoso fue identificado como Michael Ray Zapata, de 37 años. Zapata fue detenido sin incidentes y acusado de agresión agravada con arma blanca. Está siendo ingresado en el Centro de Detención del Condado de Tom Green. Posteriormente, Zapata confesó a los investigadores su participación en el incidente.

Stabbing Investigation at Convenience Store

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, at approximately 8:27 a.m., San Angelo Police observed a disturbance at a convenience store located in the 1800 block of Sherwood Way. At the time of the call, officers were already in the area investigating a separate incident just down the street. Those officers were among the first to respond to the unknown problem at the convenience store.

Upon their arrival, officers learned that the suspect had fled the scene. Officers located a 44-year-old male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds nearby and immediately began medical care. The San Angelo Fire Department responded and transported the victim to Shannon Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition. Additional officers responded to the area and located the suspect hiding nearby. The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Michael Ray Zapata. Zapata was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is being booked into the Tom Green County Detention Center.

Zapata later provided a confession to investigators regarding his involvement in the incident. This case represents exceptional teamwork between the initial responding officers, the patrol supervisors, detectives, the SAPD Drone Unit, and Crime Scene Investigations personnel, whose coordinated efforts led to a swift conclusion.
