San Angelo, Texas – On August 6, 2019, The Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas presented a training regarding the effects of trauma on children’s brains. The speaker was Crystal Kreitler, an Associate Professor of Psychology at Angelo State University.
Kreitler was born in California and raised in San Angelo. She was a first generation college student. After obtaining her Ph. D. From Texas Christian University, Angelo Stated asked her to join them as part of the faculty. “Angelo State encouraged me and helped support me to push through my Ph.D.,” commented Kreitler. She has been a part of the community and Angelo State University for over 16 years.
The Children’s Advocacy Center reached out to Kreitler to speak at a training event and highlight the research she works on at ASU in neuroscience. She spoke about the effects of trauma on the brain of children and about the neuroscience study she conducted.
“Families play a crucial role in the lives of children,” commented Kreitler. Every parent plays a roll in their children’s lives, but they can also play active roles in the community. “We can lookout for other children that are at risk and underrepresented,” stated Kreitler.
“My advice to parents especially mothers is to remember it is just about love. Loving and embracing the children and thinking outside your family embrace and love others. I am a mother and I absolutely adore child and want to do anything I can to help people that are looking to better themselves and the community” concluded Kreitler.

Kreitler comentó, "Angelo State me animó y me ayudó a superar mi doctorado”. Ella ha sido parte de la comunidad y de la Universidad Angelo State por más de 16 años.
El Centro de Defensa de los Niños contactó a Kreitler para que hablara en un evento de capacitación y destacar la investigación en neurociencia en la que trabaja en ASU. Ella habló sobre los efectos del trauma en el cerebro de los niños y sobre el estudio de neurociencia que realizó.
Kreitler comentó, "Las familias juegan un papel crucial en la vida de los niños". Todos los padres juegan un rol en la vida de sus hijos, pero también pueden desempeñar roles activos en la comunidad. "Podemos estar atentos a otros niños que están en riesgo y están subrepresentados", dijo Kreitler.
“Mi consejo para los padres, especialmente a las madres, es recordar que se trata solo de amor. Amar y abrazar a los niños y pensar fuera de tu familia, abraza y ama a los demás. Soy madre y adoro absolutamente a los niños y quiero hacer todo lo posible para ayudar a las personas que buscan mejorar a sí mismas y a la comunidad”, concluyó Kreitler.
