San Angelo, Texas – The Concho Valley Homeless Planning Coalition held its monthly meeting on June 12, 2019, in the East Mezzanine at City Hall. Robert Salas, President of the Coalition took some time to recognize a member of the board that will be leaving San Angelo. Daina Schwartz has served as the coalition secretary for 2 years and who will soon move to Wimberley, Texas.
The coalition presented a certificate of appreciation to Daina in recognition of her service to the community. “I will miss all the people who do things for the community, it’s God’s work and it’s our work help other people and that’s what we are on this earth for,” commented Schwartz.
Robert Salas brought up the fact that someone brought to his attention that there is not a designated location where the area homeless population can go and cool off once the 100-degree weather starts. His first thought was everyone should stay hydrated and dress in lightweight clothing, but he quickly realized this was an issue he would need to bring to the attention of the coalition members. During the meeting, one of the members stated that their church would soon open an area where air conditioning and water would be available. Specifics on location and date will be available soon.
The coalition will be submitting an application for rapid rehousing for about $200,000 to the Texas Homeless Network for Continuum of Care Program. This program is designed to promote community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; to provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, states, and local governments to quickly re-house homeless individuals and families.

Su primer pensamiento fue que todos deberían mantenerse hidratados y vestirse con ropa liviana, pero rápidamente se dio cuenta de que era un problema que debía llamar la atención de los miembros de la coalición. Durante la reunión, uno de los miembros declaró que su iglesia pronto abriría un área donde el aire acondicionado y el agua estuvieran disponibles. La coalición enviará una solicitud de realojamiento rápido por aproximadamente $ 200,000 a la Red de Personas sin Hogar de Texas para el programa de atención continua.
