Del Rio, Texas – A principio de Julio de 2020, la Cámara de Comercio de Del Rio, tuvo una reunión de trabajo con Pete Gallego, presidente de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross, la cual ya cumple sus 100 años de existencia.
Blanca Larson, directora de Cámara de Comercio habló con Conexión Hispana sobre los pormenores de dicha reunión.
“El Sr. Gallego nos dijo que es de sumo interés para la universidad de involucrarse en las comunidades a las que pertenece la institución”, dijo la Sra. Larson. “Estas incluyen Alpine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass y Uvalde.”
El presidente Pete Gallego en su plática ante la Cámara de Comercio, dijo que él desea que los profesores participen más en materia educativa en cada ciudad arriba mencionada.
“Por causa de la Pandemia del COVID-19 habló con nosotros por medio de videoconferencia para que le orientemos a contactar a los negocios, a las agencias federales, para que sus empleados aprovechen las carreras que la universidad ofrece y así mejorar su educación”, dijo Larson.
Ella dijo, además, que debido al Covid-19 es muy difícil saber el futuro del sistema educativo de carreras de cuatro años, y además por estar situados en un área muy chica.
“El Sr. Gallego, quiere trabajar con el Colegio Junior, para que los créditos adquiridos en esa institución, puedan ser transferibles cuando ingresen a la universidad.
Un estudio recientemente realizado por el New York Times clasificó a Sul Ross en el puesto # 21 entre 369 colegios y universidades de todo el país con la probabilidad de que un graduado de la universidad suba dos o más de una quinta porcentual en sus ingresos.

Del Rio, Texas – On July 2020 at the beginning, the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce had a work meeting with Pete Gallego, president of Sul Ross State University, which is already 100 years old.
Blanca Larson, director of the Chamber of Commerce spoke with Conexión Del Rio about the details of that meeting.
"Mr. Gallego told us that it is of great interest to the university to get involved in the communities to which the institution belongs," said Ms. Larson. "These include Alpine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde."
President Pete Gallego in his talk before the Chamber of Commerce said that he wants teachers to participate more in educational matters in each city mentioned above.
"Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, he spoke with us via videoconference so that we can guide him to contact businesses, federal agencies, so that his employees can take advantage of the careers that the university offers and thus improve their education," Larson said.
She also said that due to the Covid-19 it is very difficult to know the future of the four-year career education system, and also because they are located in a very small area.
"Mr. Gallego wants to work with the Junior College, so that the credits acquired in that institution can be transferable when they enter the university.
A recent study by the New York Times ranked Sul Ross at #21 among 369 colleges and universities across the country with the probability that a college graduate will increase two or more than a fifth of percentage of their income.
