Mayor Gunter Re-elected for Second Term

Incumbent San Angelo Mayor, Brenda Gunter easily won re-election for a second term in Saturday’s May 1, 2021 General Election. Gunter’s challengers, Dietrick Tillis placed second while Silvara Lawson was third.

SAN ANGELO –Incumbent, San Angelo Mayor, Brenda Gunter easily won re-election for a second term against her challengers, Mr. Dietrick Tillis and Mrs. Silvara Lawson in Saturday’s May 1, 2021, General Election.

Mayor Gunter’s 4,434 total votes represented 74%. Tillis garnered,224 votes while Lawson’s third-place votes totaled 328.

“It feels so good to be re-elected and that I will have an opportunity to spend the next four years working hard for all the citizens of San Angelo,” said Gunter.

For the Single Member District 2 seat, incumbent, Tom Thompson won re-election as he garnered 427 votes. His wo challengers, Mercedes Dela Cruz received 137 votes while Cie Avel Rangel came in third with 51.

The SMD6 seat has a new Council member, Mr. Larry Miller with 992 votes. Bill DeWitt, the incumbent received 657 votes, and James R. Ervin the challenger got 70 votes.

SMD4 Mrs. Lucy Gonzales ran unopposed.

The results are unofficial until canvassed at the San Angelo City Council meeting, May 4, 2021.
