Jim Sánchez, Conexión San Ángelo SAN ANGELO – In 1983, President Ronald Regan created a federal holiday to honor, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was first observed in 1986 as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Locally in San Angelo with the recent January 21st anniversary of Dr. King Jr.’s celebration, The Martin Luther King, Jr Association commemorated his birthday, his achievements and the legacy of this beloved, American civil rights leader.
“Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a celebration commemorating a man who stood for peace and nonviolence” said Michael Luckett, president of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Association. “The misconception is that he did it only for African Americans, but he stood for injustice for everybody.” It didn’t matter what race or nationality.” If you were part of an injustice, he stood for you” said Luckett.
Up next for the MLKJA is a Gospel Explosion where choirs will be invited from all over the City to ring everybody together to serve and praise one God.
Gospel Explosion is scheduled for a 6 p.m. concert time on Saturday, February 23. The all City praise and worship gathering will be held in the Murphey Performance Hall Auditorium.
Although the GE is free, a donation will be taken. All the money will go toward scholarships. “We want to give back to the community so that a high school senior will have an opportunity to apply for a scholarship,” concluded Luckett.
“We want to make a difference in our community, so all people can come together, under one roof for one night to praise the Lord,” Mrs. Jordan said.

SAN ANGELO: El presidente Ronald Reagan en 1983 creó un feriado federal en honor al Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., en 1986 se observó por primera vez como el Día de Martin Luther King, Jr.
Localmente en San Ángelo con el reciente aniversario de la celebración del Dr. King Jr., el 21 de enero la Asociación Martin Luther King Jr., conmemoró su cumpleaños, sus logros y el legado de este querido líder estadounidense de los derechos civiles.
"El Día de Martin Luther King Jr., es una celebración que conmemora a un hombre que defendió la paz y la no violencia", dijo Michael Luckett, presidente de la Asociación Martin Luther King Jr. "El concepto erróneo es que él solo lo hizo para los afroamericanos, pero él representó la injusticia para todos". "Si fueras parte de una injusticia, no importaba de qué nacionalidad o raza eres, él te apoyó", dijo Luckett.
El siguiente paso para MLKJA es una Explosión del Evangelio en la que se invitará a coros de todas partes de la Ciudad a que unan a todos para servir y alabar a un Dios.
Gospel explosión concierto está programado el sábado 23 de febrero a las 6 p.m. La reunión de alabanza y adoración de toda la ciudad se llevará a cabo en el auditorio Murphey Performance Hall.
Aunque el GE es gratuito, se tomará una donación. Todo el dinero se destinará a becas. "Queremos devolverle a la comunidad para que un estudiante de secundaria tenga la oportunidad de solicitar una beca", concluyó Luckett.
"Queremos hacer una diferencia en nuestra comunidad, para que todas las personas puedan unirse, bajo el mismo techo por una noche para alabar al Señor", dijo la Sra. Jordan.
