SAN ANGELO, TX – On Wednesday May 15, 2019 Park Plaza Nursing Home located on Howard Street celebrated National Vietnam War Veteran’s Day by recognizing the veterans in their facility. Activities director Velma Gonzales put the event together to honor the resident veterans and show them they have not been forgotten. Seeing how other events recognized veterans by having them come to the event she felt the need to recognize those that are unable to join the masses outside of the facility.
There was an opening ceremony that included singing of the national anthem and opening prayer as well as presentation of the flags by the Goodfellow, AFB Honor Guard.
Mayor Brenda Gunter and City Manager Daniel Venezuela were also present to honor these veterans.
Several residents received Vietnam Veteran Commemorative lapel pins and certificates.
The first observance of Vietnam War Veteran’s’ Day was back on March 29th, 2018. On that day Mayor Gunter reaffirmed the commitment to the Commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War through November 2025.

SAN ANGELO, TX – La casa de adultos mayores Park Plaza localizado en la calle Howard, el miércoles 15 de mayo de 2019 celebró el día nacional de los veteranos de guerra de Vietnam y reconocieron a los veteranos en sus instalaciones. La directora de actividades, Velma Gonzales, organizó el evento para honrar a los veteranos residentes y mostrarles que no se han olvidado. Al ver cómo otros eventos reconocían a los veteranos al hacer que acudieran al evento, ella sintió la necesidad de reconocer a aquellos que no pueden unirse a las masas fuera de las instalaciones.
Hubo una ceremonia de apertura que incluyó el canto del himno nacional y la oración de apertura, así como la presentación de las banderas por parte de la Guardia de Honor de la AFB Goodfellow.
La alcaldesa Brenda Gunter y el administrador de la ciudad Daniel Venezuela también estuvieron presentes para honrar a estos veteranos. Varios residentes recibieron distintivos y certificados conmemorativos de la solapa del veterano de Vietnam.
El 29 de marzo de 2018 fue la primera celebración del día de los veteranos de la guerra de Vietnam. Ese día, la alcaldesa Gunter reafirmó el compromiso a la conmemoración del 50 aniversario de la guerra de Vietnam hasta noviembre de 2025.
