Maria Mejia, executive director for Concho Valley Turning Point, Sierra Telles, and Keegan Crane serve their clients out of the love of Christ for their fellow man.
SAN ANGELO – Although Maria Mejia is the executive director for Concho Valley Turning Point, her leadership style is serving others.
Mejia, ASU intern Keegan Crane, and executive assistant Sierra Telles talked about the meaning of being a servant.
“To give back to your family and community through God’s love,” Keegan said.
“Sharing what you have been given so freely such as love, and support poured out to others,” said Sierra.
Mejia remembers when someone once said, “The easiest way to train for this position is to ask yourself, what does God’s love look like? It’s remembering to serve.”
The foundation for Turning Point’s success over the years since its existence in 1994 has been the people who love Christ and serve his people, Mejia said.
In order for the nonprofit organization to continue to serve its clients, a barbecue fundraiser and live auction will be held Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021 from 12-5 p.m. at Blaine’s Pub, 10 W. Harris.
All the proceeds will go toward expanding services to help people build new lives that allows them to “let go of the past, grab hold of where they are now, and move forward,” Mejia said.
Donated items or monetary support can be dropped off at Turning Point’s location, 528 E. Highland, Monday-Thursday between 8 a.m.- 12 p.m. before Oct. 1.

Mejía, la pasante de ASU Keegan Crane y la asistente ejecutiva Sierra Telles hablaron sobre el significado de servir a los demás.
“Retribuir a su familia y comunidad a través del amor de Dios”, dijo Keegan.
“Compartir lo que se te ha dado tan libremente, como el amor y el apoyo que se derrama a los demás”, dijo Sierra.
Mejía recuerda cuando alguien dijo una vez: “La forma más fácil de entrenar para este puesto es preguntarse, ¿cómo es el amor de Dios? Es recordar servir”.
La base del éxito de Turning Point a lo largo de los años desde su existencia en 1994 ha sido la gente que ama a Cristo y sirve a su pueblo, dijo Mejía.
Para poder continuar sirviendo a la comunidad, la organización sin fines llevará a cabo una barbacoa para recaudar fondos y una subasta en vivo el domingo 17 de octubre de 2021 de 12 a 5 p.m. en Blaine's Pub, 10 W. Harris.
Todo lo recaudado se destinará a ampliar los servicios para ayudar a las personas a construir nuevas vidas que les permitan “dejar atrás el pasado, aferrarse a donde están ahora y seguir adelante”, dijo Mejía.
