DEL RIO, Texas – Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Del Rio Station were notified that a child was lost while attempting to cross the Rio Grande River, Jan. 18.
Agents were informed by a Venezuelan woman that her child was swept away by the current. Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Del Rio Station Boat Patrol Unit were deployed to the area where the incident occurred, to locate the child. Border Patrol also contacted law enforcement counterparts in Mexico.
The body of a child matching the mother’s description was found along the riverbank on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande, by Mexican authorities. The mother was notified and confirmed it was her 7-year-old daughter, also a Venezuelan national.
The mother was taken into custody by Border Patrol agents and processed as per CBP guidelines.

Niño de siete años se ahoga en Río Grande

DEL RIO, Texas – Los agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza asignados a la Estación de Del Rio fueron notificados que un niño se perdió mientras intentaba cruzar el Río Grande, el 18 de enero. Los agentes fueron informados por una mujer venezolana que su hijo fue arrastrado por la corriente. Agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza asignados a la Unidad de Patrulla de Barcos de la Estación Del Rio fueron enviados al área donde ocurrió el incidente para localizar al niño. La Patrulla Fronteriza también contactó a sus homólogos de las fuerzas del orden público en México.
El cuerpo de un niño que coincide con la descripción de la madre fue encontrado a lo largo de la orilla del río en el lado mexicano del Río Grande, por las autoridades mexicanas. La madre fue notificada y confirmó que se trataba de su hija de 7 años, también de nacionalidad venezolana.
La madre fue detenida por agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza y procesada según las pautas de CBP.
