SAN ANGELO, TX – Sergeant Ali Shah, with the San Angelo Police Department, was one of the first to respond to the affected Bradford area after the May 18th tornado. He worked the area several days and saw how the City of San Angelo did great work taking care of streets clearing and cleaning up the area. Due to liability the City responders and cleanup crews could not assist the homeowners in their home or on the property. Seeing the pain and suffering that people were going through due to the damage Shah was approached by his neighbor Alex Vargas with an idea.
Alex Vargas as an employee of Home Depot commented to Shah that the company sometimes helps. "Let's make it happen," replied Shah. They spoke to Tracy Gonzales, Public Information Officer with SAPD and together they were able to get HEB onboard with the project. On Wednesday, May 21st employees from SAPD, Home Depot, HEB and San Angelo Fire Department totaling about 150 came together to help residents of the Bradford area in the cleanup of their homes and property.
"Before the storm I prayed, if a tornado must come, well it must come, but please don't let anyone get hurt. We want the people of San Angelo to know that we care about them and this is one way we can show that. We are not only here to arrest people and be present in the bad times we are also here to show we care and to help," concluded Shah.

SAN ANGELO, TX – El sargento Ali Shah, del Departamento de Policía de San Angelo, fue uno de los primeros en responder al área afectada de Bradford después del tornado del 18 de mayo. Trabajó en el área por varios días y vio cómo la ciudad de San Angelo hizo un gran trabajo limpiando las calles en el área. Debido a la responsabilidad, el personal de la ciudad y los equipos de limpieza no pudieron ayudar a los propietarios de viviendas en su hogar o en la propiedad. Al ver el dolor y el sufrimiento que la gente estaba atravesando debido al daño, Shah fue abordado por su vecino Alex Vargas con una idea.
Alex Vargas, como empleado de Home Depot, le comentó a Shah que la compañía a veces ayuda. "Vamos a hacer que suceda", respondió Shah. Hablaron con Tracy Gonzales, Oficial de Información Pública de SAPD, y juntos pudieron lograr que HEB se uniera al proyecto. El miércoles 21 de mayo, los empleados de SAPD, Home Depot, HEB y el Departamento de Bomberos de San Angelo sumaron un total de aproximadamente 150 para ayudar a los residentes del área de Bradford a limpiar sus casas y propiedades.
"Antes de la tormenta oré, si un tornado debe venir, bueno debe venir, pero por favor no dejes que nadie salga lastimado. Queremos que la gente de San Angelo sepa que nos preocupamos por ellos y esta es una forma en que podemos demostrarlo. "No solo estamos aquí para arrestar a personas y estar presentes en los malos tiempos, también estamos aquí para demostrar que nos importan y ayudar", concluyó Shah.
