What Does the Bible Say?

We hear about faith all the time – Keep the Faith, Faith Brother, Faith Saves – but how do you know if you have faith? What does the Bible say?

“What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.” James 2:14-17

James talk a lot about faith. From these words of scripture, we learn how to know if you have faith.

1.      James tell us real faith, saving faith, can be identified. Real faith demands action.

2.      Here action is called works. If the faith you have is real it will be demonstrated by what you do. Not what you say but what you do.

3.      It is knowledge that tells you a man is poor, hungry and someone needs to feed him. It is good to know this fact. It is good to know what should happen but if you stop there you do not have faith. 

You may call it faith; what you know and say may even be true. But real saving faith moves you to act.

Qué dice la Biblia?

Oímos hablar de la fe todo el tiempo —«Mantén la fe», «Ten fe, hermano», «La fe salva»—, pero ¿cómo saber si tienes fe? ¿Qué dice la Biblia?

«¿De qué sirve, hermanos míos, si alguno dice que tiene fe, pero no tiene obras? ¿Acaso puede esa fe salvarlo? Si un hermano o una hermana están desnudos y carecen del sustento diario, y alguno de ustedes les dice: "Vayan en paz, abríguense y aliméntense", pero no les da lo necesario para el cuerpo, ¿de qué sirve? Así también la fe, por sí misma, si no tiene obras, está muerta». Santiago 2:14-17

Santiago habla mucho sobre la fe. A través de estas palabras de las Escrituras, aprendemos cómo saber si tenemos fe.

1. Santiago nos dice que la fe verdadera —la fe que salva— puede identificarse. La fe verdadera exige acción.

2. Aquí, a la acción se le llama «obras». Si la fe que tienes es verdadera, se demostrará mediante lo que haces. No por lo que dices, sino por lo que haces.

3. Es el conocimiento lo que te indica que una persona es pobre, que tiene hambre y que alguien necesita alimentarla. Es bueno conocer este hecho. Es bueno saber lo que debería suceder, pero si te detienes ahí, no tienes fe.

Puedes llamarlo fe; lo que sabes y dices puede incluso ser cierto. Pero la fe verdadera que salva te mueve a actuar.
