In the 3rd Annual, Kids Q Cooking Competition of hamburgers and pork chops, 11-year-old, Benjamin Sercos representing Beast BBO won first-place. The Brews & Ewes competition took place on Saturday, March 5, 2022.
SAN ANGELO – When Pamela Sercos raved about her son, Benjamin’s pork chops good enough to possibly win in the Brews & Ewes Kids Q Cooking Competition, he sure delivered the goods.
On Saturday, March 5, 2022, Benjamin walked away with first-place in the pork chop category for ages 11-15. Benjamin and his dad, Gregory who won second place in the category for chicken, represented Beast BBQ.
As for the “Big Boys” meaning the men, 28 teams entered in the Brews, Ewes and BBQ & World Championship Lamb Cook-Off competition, sanctioned by the International BBQ Cookers Association. Mr. Gary Robertson won his first Grand Champion, and Reserve Grand went to Mr. Jorge Flores II.
Downtown San Angelo, Inc. hosted its’ sixth annual event which was held along the banks of the Concho River, 111 Veterans Memorial Drive located at the Santa Fe Golf Course.
“It has been awesome with participants competing in four categories: brisket, ribs, chicken, and lamb” said, Downtown Inc. Manager, Monica Ramos.
Judging got underway at 11 a.m. with the conclusion of an awards ceremony held at 5:30 p.m.
A large contingent of attendees also got to enjoy live music from such acts as, Billy Dan Langley One Man Blues Band, Rockin’ Mambo Zombies, Rita Capuchina’s Band, Ánimo, and Matt Lopez.
Among other guests who performed: Angelo Express Athletics, and Raks Sanan Belly Dance Group. There were also 40 vendors. And, children’s activities included a bounce house, rock climbing wall, painting classes, and face painting.
