The Club Victoria nonprofit organization was founded on December 10, 1943. CV’s purpose was pay tribute to the Hispanics who honorably served their country during World War II.
SAN ANGELO – On December 10, 1943, Club Victoria original founding fathers: Mr. Rodolfo Bermea, Pedro Gonzalez, Luis Medina Ernesto Sifuentes, Nasario Gonzalez, Apolonio Vargas, Pablo Morales, and Amadeo Morales’, purpose in forming the organization was to pay tribute to the Hispanics who honorably served their country in World War II. “We needed to celebrate our Hispanic soldados who fought for their country too,” said Club member, Bermea the one who came up with the original idea. “The Club wanted to acknowledge their sacrifices and celebrate them because they went over there and fought for us” stated CV President, Robert Morales in behalf of those original members The other two current officers include: vice-president Elia Zapta, and treasurer/secretary is Hilda Hernandez who preside over a nonprofit which has grown to currently 79 members.
Those early days became historic when the founders and its members decided to have dinners for their Hispanic war veteran heroes, just to name a few -- Santos Quiroz, David Quiroz, Reymundo Ortegon and Bill Gonzales. Robert’s cousin, Roy Morales an Army veteran but from the Vietnam era and among those honored was awarded two Bronze Stars for valor.
On Saturday, October 12, 2023, CV will celebrate its 80th anniversary with a major fundraiser dance and live entertainment to recognize it past members and their contributions. Proceeds will go toward the upkeeping of the nonprofit’s building. The Club is located at 806 Frisco Ave, Menard, Tx.
