A conservative Republican promising to revamp state government came recently to San Angelo, bringing his out-of-the-box stances for the office of Texas governor.
Don Huffines, a former state legislator from the Dallas area, said San Angelo’s Republican base is very important, and he wanted to come by to meet the voters in-person and to listen to them.
“San Angelo is a very important city for Texas, where we got a lot of Republican voters, I am running for governor so that is coming up very quickly,” he said.
Early voting starts on Feb. 14 and the election is March 1, “so I am campaigning here because of the number of Republican voters and the patriots that will be voting here during the primary,” he said.
His vision, he explained, is that of a much smaller government, he believes in economic and personal liberty “our liberty is a natural right, it comes from God and not the government, the other side, the socialist, it is always trying to replace God with government,” he said.
“I am going to get our culture back, where we have prayer in our school system, where we have Biblical studies in our government schools, where we don’t have to pay property tax, I have a plan that will phase it out (property tax) over 10 years,” he said.
Huffines said that one of his priorities will be to secure the border without asking permission from the federal government.
He reiterated that the border is not secure, that illegal immigration is worse than it has ever been, with lots of drugs coming across.
The big difference between him and his opponents, he said, is that he is a businessman and he is not running for office because he needs a new job or a political career, but because the job is not being done.
“I have the plan and the courage to implement the plan to solve the issues that affect Texas,” he said.
I’ll be coming to San Angelo and listening to the people in San Angelo and what is important for them… to listen and to help the people of San Angelo,” Huffines said.
Propuesta de Huffines se basa en gobierno pequeño

Un republicano conservador que promete renovar el gobierno estatal vino recientemente a San Ángelo, trayendo sus propuestas innovadoras para el cargo de gobernador de Texas.
Don Huffines, un ex legislador estatal del área de Dallas, dijo que la base republicana de San Ángelo es muy importante y que quería venir a conocer a los votantes en persona y a escucharlos.
“San Ángelo es una ciudad muy importante para Texas, donde tenemos muchos votantes republicanos, me postulo para gobernador, y esa elección está a la vuelta de la esquina”, dijo.
La votación anticipada comienza el 14 de febrero y la elección es el 1 de marzo, “así que estoy haciendo campaña aquí debido a la cantidad de votantes republicanos y patriotas que votarán aquí durante las primarias”, dijo.
Su visión, explicó, es la de un gobierno mucho más pequeño, cree en la libertad económica y personal “nuestra libertad es un derecho natural, viene de Dios y no del gobierno, el otro lado, el socialista, siempre está tratando de reemplazar a Dios con el gobierno”, dijo.
“Voy a recuperar nuestra cultura, donde tengamos oración en nuestro sistema escolar, donde tengamos estudios bíblicos en nuestras escuelas gubernamentales, donde no tengamos que pagar impuestos a la propiedad, tengo un plan que lo eliminará gradualmente (impuesto a la propiedad) en 10 años”, dijo.
Huffines dijo que una de sus prioridades será asegurar la frontera sin pedir permiso al gobierno federal.
Reiteró que la frontera no es segura, que la inmigración ilegal está peor que nunca, con mucho tráfico ilegal de drogas.
La gran diferencia entre él y sus oponentes, dijo, es que él es un hombre de negocios y no se postula para un cargo porque necesita un nuevo trabajo o una carrera política, sino porque el trabajo no se está haciendo.
“Tengo el plan y el coraje para implementar el plan para resolver los problemas que afectan a Texas”, dijo.
Vendré a San Ángelo y escucharé a la gente de San Ángelo y lo que es importante para ellos ... escuchar y ayudar a la gente de San Ángelo”, dijo Huffines.
