SAN ANGELO, TX – On Wednesday, May 28th the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce held their monthly Happy Hour event at the Gallery Verde. The event is held to provide a more social, relaxed setting for interacting. During this event, Conexión had the opportunity of speaking with Andrea Souflee, Director of Community Relations at the State Supported Living Center in Carlsbad.
"We have 198 residents living at the center and a lot of them are talented in different ways," commented Souflee. The Volunteer Services Council of San Angelo has sponsored an art show so that the residents can display their work at the Gallery Verde. The show is entitled Artfully Able, Creativity Knows No Bounds. The display includes woodwork, paintings, and mixed media.
"People with intellectual disabilities are able to create, learn and live in the community, we have a hidden gem," concluded Souflee.

SAN ANGELO, TX – El miércoles 28 de mayo, la Cámara de Comercio de San Angelo celebró su evento mensual Hora Feliz (Happy Hour) en la Galería Verde. El evento se lleva a cabo para proporcionar un ambiente más social y relajado para interactuar. Durante este evento, Conexión tuvo la oportunidad de hablar con Andrea Souflee, directora de relaciones comunitarias del centro estatal de apoyo a la vivienda en Carlsbad.
"Tenemos 198 residentes que viven en el centro y muchos de ellos tienen talento de diferentes maneras", comentó Souflee. El consejo de servicios voluntarios de San Angelo ha patrocinado una exhibición de arte para que los residentes puedan mostrar su trabajo en la Galería Verde. El espectáculo se titula Artfully Able, Creativity Knows No Bounds. La exhibición incluye trabajos en madera, pinturas y medios mixtos.
"Las personas con discapacidades intelectuales pueden crear, aprender y vivir en la comunidad, tenemos una gema oculta", concluyó Souflee.
