SAN ANGELO – Twenty vendors, the majority of them in their first or second year of business, all converged under the canopy of Santa’s Market, in its first go-around in featuring local vendors and booths held at the Old Central Firehouse Pizzeria & Taproom on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020.

Jody and wife, Michele Babiash, owners of Central Firehouse Pizzeria, after experiencing a degree of success with their October Harvest Market, decided to launch out with their first market event as a way to give back to their community; and its small businesses who took a financial hit in the midst of a pandemic.

“In October things were just so hard (economically for businesses). We knew so many local people who weren’t making a living,” said Babiash.

Michele also got help from Jody, and her two daughters, one being Dakota. All of them rolled up their sleeves to work on planning this holiday event. The Babiashes also had live entertainment, one being Mykal Martin.

Martin performed the Beatles' 1965 song "I've Just Seen a Face.” Mykal followed up with a song he wrote, “Why Tequila, Why.”

Other vendors included: KP Décor, The Special Kase, Sunshine Girl, Simply London. One of those vendors was first year small business minority owner, Maynard “2oonz” Zamora, owner of Art of MZ. Maynard told Conexión that his work involves watercolors, acrylics, and digital artwork. As for his style, he described it as “cartoonish.”

Maynard, 32, has been doing this since he was in elementary school which was 24 years ago. One of his mural works, a fireman and firetruck, is currently on display in the Old Central Firehouse.

Maynard says his life is based on being positive; he tries to inspire people with his God-given talent. Zamora appreciates people who recognize his professional work at such a young age. “It means a lot to me that people give me an opportunity to paint for them.”

Otros proveedores incluyeron: KP Décor, The Special Kase, Sunshine Girl, Simply London.
