San Angelo, Texas – The San Angelo Police Department celebrated the retirement of officer Cathy DeLaughter and Officer Michael Peterson on June 28th at the McNease Convention Center. These two officers They added over 60 years of combined experience.
DeLaughter was the first police officer in San Angelo and 29 years ago she was pregnant. At that time, she was in the crime scene unit. We are a family; we are a team. It’s hard to leave the family, but I will still be a reserve officer for the department,” stated an emotional DeLaughter. Cathy’s plan is to run for sheriff in Irion County, Texas. “Hopefully if the people of Irion County see fit, I will be there next year,” commented DeLaughter. Her family is glad she is getting out of law enforcement even though she is staying on the force as a reserve officer. “I have always worked in careers where I give, and I want to keep giving,” declared DeLaughter.
Michael Peterson started his career in 1988 in the patrol division and continued in that division for 31 years. Some of his colleagues look to him for advice. He holds a Master Police Officer’s License and has been a 20-year safe driver. His work has led to countless apprehensions and arrests.
John Bouligny, President of the San Angelo Police Officers Association and Noel Anderson, Vice President of the San Angelo Coalition of Police presented retirement badges to Officers DeLaughter and Peterson.
