City officials were able to address a brutal winter storm and water main breaks by taking prompt action that negated some of the bitter stink out of conditions that confronted San Angeloans in the middle of February.
SAN ANGELO – First a brutal winter storm that shuttered citizens last weekend. That was followed by no electricity for San Angeloans as of Monday, Feb. 15, 2021. Add a third element, water main breaks which all adds up to in Mayor Brenda Gunter’s own words, “unacceptable conditions and frustration.”
However, Gunter informed Conexion the good news is that city crews have repaired some water main breaks; just to name one, South Irving Street and West Twohig Ave.
The other measure taken was to open the McNease Convention Center immediately as of 4 p.m. Monday afternoon to provide shelter for those without electricity. While pillows and blankets are not provided, snacks are; and masks must be worn. Also, pets are allowed, however prepare to bring your animal’s own food.
Once McNease was at full capacity, the Fort Concho Stables, 210 Henry O’ Flipper St. would then be open, Gunter said. The stables have 77 cots set up which were provided by the American Red Cross and Goodfellow Air Force Base.

Funcionarios de la ciudad hicieron frente a una brutal tormenta invernal y fallas en las tuberías principales de agua tomando medidas rápidas luego de las condiciones críticas que enfrentaron los habitantes de San Angelo a mediados de febrero.
SAN ANGELO - Primero una brutal tormenta de invierno que se dejó sentir el fin de semana pasado. A esto le siguió la falta de electricidad para los habitantes de la ciudad a partir del lunes 15 de febrero de 2021. Luego vinieron las fallas de tuberías de agua, lo cual suma, en palabras de la alcaldesa Brenda Gunter, "condiciones inaceptables y frustración".
Sin embargo, Gunter informó a Conexión que la buena noticia es que las cuadrillas de la ciudad han reparado algunos cortes de agua; solo para nombrar uno, South Irving Street y West Twohig Ave.
La otra medida tomada fue abrir el Centro de Convenciones McNease inmediatamente a partir de las 4 p.m. del lunes por la tarde para dar refugio a quienes no tienen electricidad. Si bien no se proporcionan almohadas y mantas, sí hubo alimentos; también se observó el uso de tapabocas. El refugio temporal también se abrió para mascotas, sin embargo el alimento fue solo para las personas.
