A candlelight vigil was held Monday night for Victoria, a three-year-old who died in an Eagle Pass hospital and whose mother and stepfather were arrested in Mexico.
Luis and Rosa Maria (no last name provided under Mexican law) were arrested by Mexican authorities in Piedras Negras, in connection with what has been described as a case of extreme child abuse.
The investigation is being carried by Mexican and U.S. law enforcement, since Victoria died on April 25 at the Fort Duncan Medical Center, in Eagle Pass, Texas, but the abuse allegedly took place in Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico, where the child lived with her mother and stepfather.
Authorities revealed that the child showed signs of corporal abuse and the case is being investigated as a feminicide, which carries a maximum penalty of 60 years incarceration.
The community rallied around a picture of Victoria at Shelby Park, raised awareness about child abuse, and demanded justice for the abused child.

El lunes por la noche se llevó a cabo una vigilia con velas por Victoria, una niña de tres años que murió en un hospital de Eagle Pass y cuya madre y padrastro fueron arrestados en México.
Luis y Rosa María (cuyo apellido no se proporciona según la ley mexicana) fueron arrestados por las autoridades mexicanas en Piedras Negras, en relación con lo que se ha descrito como un caso de abuso infantil extremo.
La investigación está a cargo de fuerzas policiales mexicanas y estadounidenses, ya que Victoria murió el 25 de abril en el Centro Médico Fort Duncan, en Eagle Pass, Texas, pero el abuso supuestamente tuvo lugar en Piedras Negras, Coah., México, donde vivía la menor con su madre y padrastro.
Las autoridades revelaron que la menor presentaba indicios de maltrato corporal y el caso está siendo investigado como feminicidio, delito que conlleva una pena máxima de 60 años de prisión.
