A Star-Spangled Banner concert and fireworks show was the biggest holiday attention-getter to draw the fourth largest crowd in the state of Texas for a fireworks for a pre-4th of July.
SAN ANGELO – A Star-Spangled Banner concert and fireworks show’s explosive pyrotechnic devices was the biggest attention-getter as every eye including heads turned skyward to celebrate the third annual pre-4th of July holiday extravaganza held at the Bill Ayler Sr. Memorial River Stage on Monday, July 3, 2023.
Among the thousands of people there were for her very first time was Sofia Blastick and friend Erinn Lebrasseur. Blastick stated she was very excited and looking forward to the fireworks! For Lebrasseur this being her 17th year to attend, it was all about friendship, freedom and being together.
The show, considered the fourth largest holiday event, has grown even bigger to conservatively draw approximately 50,000 attendees due to other additional jam-packed day long festivities, ranging from a 12-2 p.m. Including the car show at the Paseo, the Lions Club’s hamburger cookout held at the Fort Concho Stables, etc.
In the opening ceremonies Congressman August Pfluger gave brief remarks, “247 years ago, 13 colonies led by brave people like Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Benjamin Franklin stood up for our freedoms. This evening is a celebration about that freedom.” On July 4, 1776, these patriots and others signed the Declaration of Independence.
The celebration included two concerts, the first one at 6:45 p.m. with the Lake View Marichi Los Casicas’ performance, followed at 8:20 p.m. by the San Angelo Community Band under the direction of Dr. Constance L. Kelly.
At 9:20 p.m., when the band played Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture, explosive fireworks were fired from across Celebration Bridge near the River Stage.

El espectáculo, considerado el cuarto evento festivo más grande, ha crecido aún más para atraer de manera conservadora a aproximadamente 50 mil asistentes debido a otras festividades adicionales, desde las 12 a las 2 p.m. Incluyendo la exhibición de autos en el Paseo, la comida al aire libre de hamburguesas del Lions Club celebrada en Fort Concho Stables, etc.

La celebración contó con dos conciertos, el primero a las 6:45 p.m. con la actuación de Lake View Marichi Los Casicas, seguida a las 8:20 p.m. por la Banda Comunitaria de San Ángelo bajo la dirección de la Dra. Constance L. Kelly.
A las 9:20 p.m., cuando la banda tocó la obertura de 1812 de Tchaikovsky, se dispararon fuegos artificiales desde el otro lado del Puente Celebration, cerca del River Stage.
