Goodfellow’s descendent speaks at Heritage Ceremony

Master Sgt. Corey Goodfellow, a distant relative of 1st Lt. John J. Goodfellow Jr. was the guest speaker at the Heritage Ceremony held at Goodfellow Air Force Base on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
SAN ANGELO – To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Goodfellow Air Force Field, officially renamed Goodfellow on May 27, 1941, Master Sgt. Corey Goodfellow, a distant relative of 1st Lt. John J. Goodfellow Jr. was invited to be the guest speaker at Thursday’s July 1, 2021, 9 a.m. Heritage Ceremony held in front of the Norma Brown Plaza.
Lt. Goodfellow Jr., a native of San Angelo, was a World War I aviator who was killed in combat in 1918.
When Master Sgt. Goodfellow, 388th Munitions Squadron commander’s support staff section chief, found out that Lt. Goodfellow Jr. had a base in Texas renamed in his honor, solidified his decision on which branch to join.
“One of the coolest experiences and definitely the highlight of my career is being here with all of you today. I can only hope that I served honorably enough to live up to Lt. Goodfellow’s legacy.”

El Sargento Primero Corey Goodfellow, un pariente lejano del Primer Teniente John J. Goodfellow Jr., fue el orador invitado en la ceremonia de herencia celebrada en la base de la Fuerza Aérea Goodfellow el jueves 1 de julio de 2021.
SAN ÁNGELO - Para conmemorar el 80 aniversario de Goodfellow Air Force Field, oficialmente rebautizado como Goodfellow el 27 de mayo de 1941, el Sargento Primero Corey Goodfellow, un pariente lejano del Primer Teniente John J. Goodfellow Jr., fue invitado como orador invitado en la ceremonia de herencia del jueves 1 de julio de 2021 a las 9 a.m. celebrada frente a la Plaza Norma Brown.
El Teniente Goodfellow Jr., originario de San Angelo, fue aviador durante la Primera Guerra Mundial y murió en combate en 1918.
Cuando el Sargento Primero Goodfellow, jefe de sección de personal apoyo del 388 Escuadrón de Municiones, descubrió que una base militar en Texas había sido rebautizada en honor al Teniente Goodfellow Jr., él tomó la decisión de enlistarse en la Fuerza Aérea.
“Una de las mejores experiencias y definitivamente lo más destacado de mi carrera es estar aquí con todos ustedes hoy. Sólo puedo esperar haber servido lo suficientemente honorablemente como para estar a la altura del legado del teniente Goodfellow".
