San Angelo, Texas – Lucy Gonzales is the San Angelo Council Member, District 4.
“When I saw the opportunity to run for City Council, I took it,” Gonzales said. “I thought it was the time to be able to serve the community.”
Gonzales was born in Del Rio, graduated from Sul Ross University majoring in criminal justice and a minor in sociology and psychology.
“I was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and I retired after 26 years of service,” the Councilwoman said.
“After I retired, an opportunity arose in my life to run for City Council,” Gonzales said. “My passion is to help people when I can in the position, I am in.”
“I wanted to influence women of my culture ‘to reflect themselves in me.” Said Gonzales.
For the Councilwoman, education and family is especially important. “Mexican families are very strong in work ethics, we need to teach that to our children at a very young age they could have better life, than us” Gonzales stated.
Gonzales said that turning those work ethics and translated them into voting ethics, that would make a real difference. She said the best thing for parents is to educate their children in politics and the importance of voting.
“Make sure that we count in the community,” Gonzales said. “To show that we make a difference.”

San Ángelo, Texas – Lucy Gonzales es miembro del Consejo de San Ángelo, Distrito 4.
“Cuando vi la oportunidad de postularme para el Concejo Municipal, la aproveché”, dijo Gonzales. "Pensé que era el momento de poder servir a la comunidad".
Gonzales nació en Del Rio, se graduó de la Universidad Sul Ross con especialización en justicia penal y una especialización en sociología y psicología.
“Fui empleada por el Departamento de Justicia Criminal de Texas y me jubilé después de 26 años de servicio”, dijo la concejal.
“Después de jubilarme, surgió la oportunidad en mi vida de postularme para el Concejo Municipal”, dijo Gonzales. “Mi pasión es ayudar a las personas cuando puedo en el puesto en el que estoy”.
"Quería influir en las mujeres de mi cultura para que se reflejaran en mí". Dijo Gonzales.
Para la concejal, la educación y la familia son especialmente importantes. “Las familias mexicanas son muy fuertes en la ética del trabajo, tenemos que enseñarles a nuestros hijos desde muy pequeños que podrían tener una vida mejor que nosotros”, dijo Gonzales.
Gonzales dijo que convertir esa ética de trabajo y traducirla en ética de voto haría una diferencia real. Dijo que lo mejor para los padres es educar a sus hijos en política y la importancia de votar.
“Asegúrese de contar en la comunidad”, dijo Gonzales. "Para demostrar que marcamos la diferencia".
