The Meals for the Elderly is a private non-profit organization that serves the homebound elderly of San Angelo. They don’t only serve hot meals, but also provide frozen meals, and snacks for the weekends. Residents that have pets can also receive pet food. Charyln Ocker, President & CEO spoke to Conexion about the organization's fundraiser taking place on Tuesday, February 25th.
The Mardi Gras celebratian is an annual fund raising event. This year will be their 20th annual celebration. It will be held at the McNease Convention Center from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. All the proceeds will be used by Meals for the Elderly to keep providing for the seniors in Tom Green County and Miles Texas.
The event will have a silent auction, food vendors, poker as well as children’s activities. The Central Jazz Band will be on-site to share their talent with the attendees.
Charlyn Ocker has been with the organization to 40 years. Meals for the Elderly serves about 750 clients throught Tom Green County and Miles. “When you see that you are helping make a difference in your community, it grows on you,” commented Ocker. The volunteers that support the organization not only deliver meals but do a face to face wellness check. They are able to see that the client is doing ok. “The success of Meals for the Elderly has always come from our donors and volunteers. San Angelo now a very giving community. We are very fortunate to have so many people that want to donate and volunteer,” concluded Ocker.

San Ángelo, Texas – Las comidas para los ancianos (The Meals for the Elderly) es una organización privada sin fines de lucro en San Ángelo que sirve a los ancianos confinados en su hogar. No solo sirven comidas calientes, sino que también ofrecen comidas congeladas, almuerzos y botanas para los fines de semana. La celebración de Mardi Gras es un evento anual de recaudación de fondos. Este año será su vigésima celebración. Se llevará a cabo en el Centro de Convenciones McNease a partir de las 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Meals for the Elderly utilizará todas las ganancias para seguir proveyendo comidas para a los adultos mayores en el condado Tom Green y Miles Texas.
El evento tendrá una subasta silenciosa, vendedores de comida, póker y actividades para niños. La Banda de Jazz de la escuela secundaria Central estará en el lugar para compartir su talento con los asistentes.
