San Angelo, Texas – In a recent interview with Conexion, Maestro Hector Guzman commented. “I came from Mexico as a student and I was always looking for opportunities. The doors open for me in a university in Dallas then in North Texas where I met Eduardo Mata and the symphony director.”
In 1983 in Plano, Tx is where my career started with the symphony. I later became director in Irving, Texas and then San Angelo.
In 2004 I was contacted by the board of directors of the symphony of San Angelo. They were in search of a new director auditions took place and I was not selected. After about a year the director left and instead of having another audition, they contacted me and offered me the position.
Becoming a director of 3 orchestras opened more doors for me especially internationally. I was given the opportunity to audition for the philharmonic in Jalisco which I later had to had to let go because it required most of time. 2 years later I became director of the orchestra in corpus Christi and once again was director of 4 orchestras.
Our first concert of the season will be a Jazz concert on January 25th, 2020. There is a total of 6 musicians that are coming from all over the United States. They are extraordinary! The concert will take place in the Murphy Performance Hall.

San Ángelo, Texas – En reciente entrevista con Conexión el maestro Héctor Guzmán comentó. “Vine de México como estudiante y siempre estaba buscando oportunidades. Me abrieron las puertas en una universidad de Dallas y luego en el norte de Texas, donde conocí a Eduardo Mata y al director de la sinfónica”.
En 1983 en Plano, TX es donde mi carrera comenzó con la sinfónica. Más tarde me convertí en director en Irving, Texas y luego en San Ángelo.
En 2004 fui contactado por la junta directiva de la sinfónica de San Ángelo, estaban en busca de un nuevo director, se realizaron audiciones y no fui seleccionado. Después de aproximadamente un año, el director se fue y, en lugar de tener otra audición, me contactaron y me ofrecieron el puesto.
Convertirse en director de 3 orquestas me abrió más puertas, especialmente a nivel internacional. Me dieron la oportunidad de una audición para la filarmónica en Jalisco, luego tuve que abandonar porque requería la mayor parte del tiempo. 2 años después me convertí en director de la orquesta en Corpus Christi y una vez más fui director de 4 orquestas.
Nuestro primer concierto de la temporada será un concierto de Jazz el 25 de enero de 2020. Hay un total de 6 músicos que vienen de todos los Estados Unidos. ¡Son extraordinarios! El concierto tendrá lugar en el Murphy Performance Hall.
