Jesus Toro Martinez and Andy Villareal’s artwork were on display at the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum & Cultural Center’s first exhibition held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023 at the Coop Gallery and Gallery Verde.

SAN ANGELO – The phrase “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” means something that one person considers worthless may be considered valuable by someone else.
Jesus Toro Martinez, considered one of the best in the art world, literary takes trash and makes beautiful artwork with it.
“The art I make is a visual statement about the world we live in today. The materials I use are an expression of what Mother Earth has provided” stated Martinez who received his BFA from the San Antonio Art Institute and an MFA from Ravenherst University in the Netherlands.
To turn it from trash into a work of art, Martinez takes it through a deep deconstruction process. He firmly believes in keeping our planet green by recycling materials transformed into beautiful art.
Martinez and his fellow professional colleague, Andy Villareal, were the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum & Cultural Center’s special guests at its first exhibition artwork unveiled at the Coop Gallery & Gallery Verde, located at 417 and 427 S. Oakes St.
Martinez’s exhibition, titled “Tierra Sagrada” which means Sacred Land is seen in one of his paintings called cottoned or fruits of the land particularly from the Lubbock, Texas region.
As for Villareal’s exhibit titled, “Galactic Warriors and Gods from The Yucatan,” one piece he was proud of was The Mayan Glyphs and Half a Jaguar on Board the Spaceship. The abstract piece is a pyramid with glyph which is a visual representation of one or more characters climbing upstairs on the right and left side while ascending up into a flying saucer. Villarreal received his BA from Corpus Christi State University and his MFA from Arizona State University.
The exhibitions will be displayed from Jan. 6 - Feb. 25. Hours of operation are Tuesday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m.

Museo hispano presenta obras invaluables

SAN ÁNGELO – La frase “La basura de un hombre es el tesoro de otro” significa que algo que una persona considera sin valor puede ser considerado valioso por otra persona.
Jesús Toro Martínez, considerado uno de los mejores en el mundo del arte, toma la basura y hace bellas obras de arte con ella.
“El arte que hago es una declaración visual sobre el mundo en el que vivimos hoy. Los materiales que utilizo son una expresión de lo que la Madre Tierra me ha brindado”, afirmó Martínez, quien recibió su BFA del Instituto de Arte de San Antonio y una Maestría en Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Ravenherst en los Países Bajos.
Para convertir esta basura en una obra de arte, Martínez la lleva a través de un profundo proceso de construcción. Él cree firmemente en mantener nuestro planeta verde mediante el reciclaje de materiales transformados en bellas artes.

En cuanto a la exhibición de Villareal titulada “Guerreros Galácticos y Dioses de Yucatán”, una pieza de la que estaba orgulloso era Los glifos mayas y medio jaguar a bordo de la nave espacial. La pieza abstracta es una pirámide con un glifo que es una representación visual de uno o más personajes subiendo escaleras por el lado derecho e izquierdo mientras ascienden a un platillo volador. Villarreal recibió su BA de la Universidad Estatal de Corpus Christi y su MFA de la Universidad Estatal de Arizona.
Las muestras de arte se exhibirán del 6 de enero al 25 de febrero. El horario de atención es de martes a sábado, de 11 a.m. a 4 p.m.; y domingo de 1 a 4 p.m.
