Rochelle and the Sidewinders Band, and solo artist Jett Black were this year’s Simply Texas Blues Festival winners. Both acts performed on Sat., May 22, 2021 at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage.
SAN ANGELO– “And the band winner for the 2021 Simply Texas Blues Festival is ... Rochelle and the Sidewinders!” announced San Angelo Blues Society president and event coordinator Alex Cunningham.
A second winner, Jett Black in the Solo/Duo category will compete with the Sidewinders to represent San Angelo in the International Blues Challenge scheduled for Jan. 18, 2022 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Black, Rochelle and the Sidewinders were chosen from among the 13 acts which performed on Sat., May 22, 2021. The performances took place at the Bill Aylor River Stage from 11:50 a.m. until 7 p.m. before two blues judges.
“It was one of the best blues festivals I have been involved in since being here,” Cunningham said.
Conexión interviewed Rochelle and asked how she thought her performance with the band went. “Today I was so nervous, but I stayed focused and made sure the people felt something,” she said.
Rochelle and the band wrapped up their finale with a cover song from Tina Turner’s iconic 1971 classic, Proud Mary.

Rochelle y la Sidewinders Band, y el solista Jett Black fueron los ganadores del Simply Texas Blues Festival de este año. Ambos se presentaron el sábado 22 de mayo de 2021 en el Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage.
SAN ÁNGELO - "Y la banda ganadora del Simply Texas Blues Festival 2021 es ... ¡Rochelle y los Sidewinders!" anunció el presidente y coordinador de eventos de San Angelo Blues Society, Alex Cunningham.
Un segundo ganador, Jett Black en la categoría Solo/Duo competirá con los Sidewinders para representar a San Ángelo en el International Blues Challenge programado para el 18 de enero de 2022 en Memphis, Tennessee.
Black, y Rochelle y los Sidewinders fueron elegidos entre los 13 participantes que se presentaron el sábado 22 de mayo de 2021. Las actuaciones tuvieron lugar en el Bill Aylor River Stage desde las 11:50 a.m. hasta las 7 p.m. ante dos jueces de blues.
“Fue uno de los mejores festivales de blues en los que he estado involucrado desde que estoy aquí”, dijo Cunningham.
Conexión entrevistó a Rochelle y le preguntó qué pensaba de su actuación con la banda. “Hoy estaba muy nerviosa, pero me mantuve concentrada y me aseguré de que la gente sintiera algo”, dijo.
Rochelle y la banda cerraron con un cover del clásico de 1971 de Tina Turner, Proud Mary.
