Sunday Funday Car Show features 50 cars

The first annual, Sunday Funday Car Show was held on Saturday, April 23, 2023. Among the 50 cars entered was this 96 Mitsubishi Toyota Eclipse owned by Chris Dettmer.  

SAN ANGELO – Although the Sunday Funday Car Show was not set up for handing out trophies, there were some serious motorheads, it means car enthusiasts, who werealso competitive drivers represented in this first annual, spring event.

One of those motorheads was Chris “Fast & Furious” Dettmer who recently placed in the top 20 when he entered his 96 Mitsubishi Toyota Eclipse sweet ride at the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo’s Saddle Up Show.Chris modified his 2.0 vehicle with all-bolt-on-headers, a cold air intake, D2 racing suspension, etc. Another competitor from a previous car show, 5th place finisher Harvey Hinojos, rolled up in his 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS. The SS can go from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds at a top speed of 165 mph. And one of the most unusual motor vehicles, restricted to 25 mph was Nick and Lauren Subia’s golf cart.

Mike Rivas and Nick Bain, coordinators for the sports car show stated approximately 50 cars ranging from Club Affiliation’s Avenue Knightz’ 1st place champion, Cecil Caldera’s 2002 Cadillac Deville, to a 1947 Dodge pickup truck, and motorcycles turned out on Saturday, April 23, 2023 from 12 p.m.- 6 p.m.

If the public was not able to make it out to the SFCS due to cold weather, another sports car show will take place on Sunday, June 25, 2023 stated Rivas. The 2.0 car show will be held at the same location, the Concho Valley Farmer’s Market, 609 S. Oakes Street.
