Oakes St. from January 6 - February 25; Tuesday – Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm; Sunday, 1 – 4 pm; Weekdays by appointment only. This is the first art exhibit being hosted by our organization showcasing Hispanic artists. Tierra Sagrada artwork is composed of art that showcases a visual statement about our modern world. Jesus toro Martinez dedicates most of his time to using and collecting scraps of damaged materials used as inspiration for his work. Martinez's artwork showcases the importance of keeping our planet green by recycling materials transformed into beautiful art.
About the Artist: Jesus Toro Martinez is a Texas native who works out of his studio near the San
Antonio metropolitan area. He received his B.F.A. from the San Antonio Art Institute and an M.F.A.
from Ravenherst University in the Netherlands. In addition, his paintings are in numerous private
collections across the United States and Europe.
Galactic Warriors And Gods From The Yucatan artwork's artistic influence derives from Andy’s personal experiences acquired during his travels to Europe, the US Southwest, East and West coasts, and especially the Mayan Indigenous cultures, which became his primary source of inspiration. His artworks combine history, Mayan mythology, and ancient religion. Andy’s work emphasizes the human condition, struggles, harmony, social injustice, and celebration of life.
About the Artist: Andy Villarreal was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1954. The city of San Antonio, Texas is a multicultural metropolitan area that has deep Hispanic roots, through its traditional food, art, festivals, entertainment, & historic neighborhoods. Andy's experiences as a Texas native traveling in Mexico, especially the Yucatan, and his passion for Mesoamerican Indigenous cultures, add energy and intensity to his work. Villarreal received his BA from Corpus Christi State University and his MFA from Arizona State University. His work has been exhibited internationally in museums, universities, and galleries and is included in permanent collections across the United States.
