San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Announces 2026 En Plein Air Texas Opening Events

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts invites the community to Spirit of the Ranch 2026, the culminating exhibition and art sale of this year's En Plein Air Texas (EPAT) Ranch Fellowship. Opening events will take place October 22–25, with the exhibition remaining on view through January 3, 2027.

This year’s selected artists are Natalia Nosyk, Nancy Tankersley, Richie Vios, and Beth Bathe, who had the rare opportunity to slow down, live on a working West Texas Ranch, and paint directly from the landscape over an extended three-week residency. 

The paintings produced during the residency culminate in Spirit of the Ranch, a curated exhibition and sale presented each fall at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, celebrating the enduring tradition of plein air painting while supporting its future.

The public is invited to the Spirit of the Ranch opening and art sale on Thursday, October 22, from 5–8 PM at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Alongside the exhibition, additional ranch paintings by the Fellowship Artists will be available for purchase in the Grand Hall through Sunday, October 25. Paintings created by local high school students during a workshop with the Fellows will also be on view and for sale.

On Friday, October 23, the exhibition and Grand Hall sale will continue from 10 AM–4 PM. That evening, from 6–8 PM, the four Ranch Fellowship Artists will participate in a panel discussion reflecting on their time, work, and adventures on the ranches. The discussion will be moderated by Tim Newton, a past En Plein Air Texas juror and judge.

On Saturday, October 24, help set a world record! Community members of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in the EPAT Community Paint-Out in downtown San Angelo. SAMFA hopes to set a world record for the most people painting plein air at once in one venue. Check-in begins at 8 AM at the museum, 1 Love St, and awards for top entries in age-based categories will be announced at 1 PM. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite painting supplies and join this creative West Texas moment.

The Spirit of the Ranch exhibition and art sale will continue during regular museum hours on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25. The curated exhibition itself will remain open through January 3, 2027.

El Museo de Bellas Artes de San Angelo anuncia los eventos de inauguración de *En Plein Air Texas* 2026

El Museo de Bellas Artes de San Angelo invita a la comunidad a *Spirit of the Ranch* 2026, la exposición y venta de arte que culmina el programa *Ranch Fellowship* de *En Plein Air Texas* (EPAT) de este año. Los eventos de inauguración se llevarán a cabo del 22 al 25 de octubre, y la exposición permanecerá abierta al público hasta el 3 de enero de 2027.

Los artistas seleccionados este año son Natalia Nosyk, Nancy Tankersley, Richie Vios y Beth Bathe, quienes tuvieron la oportunidad única de bajar el ritmo, vivir en un rancho activo del oeste de Texas y pintar directamente del paisaje durante una residencia prolongada de tres semanas.

Las obras creadas durante la residencia culminan en *Spirit of the Ranch*, una exposición y venta curada que se presenta cada otoño en el Museo de Bellas Artes de San Angelo, celebrando la perdurable tradición de la pintura *plein air* (al aire libre) y apoyando su futuro.

Esa misma noche, de 6:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m., los cuatro artistas del programa *Ranch Fellowship* participarán en un panel de discusión para reflexionar sobre su tiempo, trabajo y aventuras en los ranchos. El debate será moderado por Tim Newton, quien ha sido jurado y juez de *En Plein Air Texas* en ediciones anteriores.

¡El sábado 24 de octubre, ayude a establecer un récord mundial! Se invita a miembros de la comunidad de todas las edades y niveles de experiencia a participar en el evento comunitario de pintura al aire libre (*Paint-Out*) de EPAT en el centro de San Angelo. El SAMFA espera establecer un récord mundial de mayor cantidad de personas pintando al aire libre simultáneamente en un mismo lugar. El registro comienza a las 8:00 a. m. en el museo (ubicado en 1 Love St) y los premios para las obras destacadas en las categorías por edades se anunciarán a la 1:00 p. m. Se invita a los participantes a traer sus materiales de pintura favoritos y a unirse a esta experiencia creativa del oeste de Texas.
