SAN ANGELO – This year’s 2021 Showdown boat races in San Angelo were “full on” as 1700 spectators turned out to support 91 boats entered in 13 classifications, compared to a no spectator event last year due to the pandemic.

“We had 1,000 show up on Saturday and another 700 for the finals on Sunday” said David Carroll, Series Director for the Southern Drag Boat Association. Average yearly attendance is about 3,00 but Carroll said it was a good start as every race was tightly contested. The 15th annual event was held at Spring Creek Marina on Fisherman’s Road.

The 13 classes included: Personal Watercraft, Stock Eliminator, Modified Eliminator, Top Eliminator, Pro Comp Flat, Quick Eliminator, Pro Mod, Pro Outlaw, Top Alcohol Hydro, and Top Fuel Eliminator, Hydro and Top Alcohol Flat, Pro Jet

In the Personal Watercraft, 1 race between Jacob Nodler and Jody Smith, the winner with a 0.2153 light was Smith. “I want to thank Trinity Racing, my mom, Stacy, David Carroll, and my grandpa” said Jody gleefully.
